OSAGE COUNTY —A spring storm is blamed for a fire that damaged a. post office in a rural Kansas community.
Just before 7p.m. Monday, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a possible fire at the Lyndon Post Office, 712 Topeka Avenue. An Osage County Sheriff’s unit arrived at 7:00 pm and confirmed an active fire within the building. Several fire extinguishers were being deployed by citizens who had stopped.
Fire units from Osage County Fire Districts 5-Lyndon, 3-Melvern, and 2-Osage City responded to the call. The fire was contained to the front ceiling area of the building and was believed to be caused by lightning. The fire was extinguished by approximately 7:10 pm.
Structure damage to the post office was minimal, however the entire building likely received smoke damage. Corps Chiropractic, 710 Topeka Avenue, also likely received smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
