L. D. Young, 88, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the Maryville Living Center.
Logan Douglas Young, III was born on July 25, 1936 in Quitman, Missouri to Byron and Mary Louise (Lowe) Young. He was a 1954 graduate Quitman High School and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University where he received his Master’s Degree in Education. He was a Biology Teacher, Basketball Coach and Farmer. He was a Sig Tau, played basketball for Northwest and was on the first baseball team at Northwest.
He was a Lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, where he received Elk of the year in 2020 and 2021 and he was also in charge of the Elks Hoop Shoot, member of Skidmore Lions Club, Moila Shrine Temple and coached at several schools. He enjoyed playing golf and being with his family and friends. He was a huge Bearcat Fan “OABAAB”.
He married Laura J. Bower on September 21, 1957 in Albany, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2010. He was also preceded by his parents and sister, Nancy Goff.
Survivors include his children, Mindy Young, Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Matt (Cathy) Young, Kansas City, Missouri, Mike (Michelle) Young, Maryville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Courtney Stephen Young-Flanery, Kansas City, Missouri, Catie Young, St. Joseph, Missouri, Jordan (Natasha) Young, Maryville, Missouri, Chase (Lexa) Young, Maryville, Missouri, Claire (Ryan) Crowley, Olathe, Kansas; six great-grandchildren, Cosi Young-Flanery, Logan Young, Raelynn Young, Sutton Young, Lincoln Young and Hudson Crowley; sister, Ann Gustafson, Boone, Iowa; sister-in-law, Barbara Bower, Mount Ayr, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service 10am Wednesday, June 18th at Price Funeral Home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, June 17th at the funeral home. In memory of L.D., his family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or to the Elks Lodge.
