KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Law enforcement are investigating a fatal hit-and-and run involving a small child that occurred just before 6:30p.m. Monday in Kansas City, Missouri.
Investigators worked throughout Monday night and Tuesday day, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina. They were able to get in contact with both Amazon, and the 3rd party delivery driving company based locally, both of which were cooperative in the investigation.
Detectives identified a subject of interest and that subject has been taken into custody by police for further investigation.
A marked Amazon delivery vehicle had just completed a package delivery in the 1800 block of E. 3rd Terrace in Kansas City, Missouri, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina.
After the delivery, the vehicle began traveling westbound on E. 3rd Terrace toward Woodland Avenue. At approximately the same time, a child later identified as 4-year-old Tadens Joseph entered the roadway and was struck by the delivery vehicle, according to Becchina. The driver initially stopped at the scene but then left prior to officers’ arrival.
A family member attempted to follow the vehicle to a subsequent stop and informed the driver of what had occurred; however, the driver denied involvement and left the area.
The child was pronounced deceased as a result his injuries.
According to Becchina, the next part of the investigation involves detectives working with prosecutors to assemble all of the needed investigative findings, including reconstruction, witness interviews, any forensic or video evidence, and any other associated evidence that would help prosecutors. Once that is all complete that case file will be submitted to prosecutors for their review and determination of any applicable charges. These are complex investigations and many times can take several weeks to complete. It is important to get all of the evidence compiled to present a comprehensive picture of the events.
