The finalists for the 2025 Rawlings Gold Glove were announced on Wednesday, with a trio of Kansas City Royals among the American League finalists and two St. Louis Cardinals on the National League side.

For the Kansas City Royals, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr, the reigning AL Gold Glove winner at shortstop, third baseman Maikel Garcia, and center fielder Kyle Isbel were named finalists.&nbsp; It's the first nomination for both Garcia and Isbel in their careers.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Witt Jr. looks poised to bring his second Gold Glove award back to Kansas City.&nbsp; The 25-year old leads all MLB shortstops with 24 Outs Above Average, preventing 18 runs.&nbsp; Witt Jr. would be the first Royal to win back-to-back Gold Glove awards since Alex Gordon won four in a row between the 2017 and 2020 seasons.&nbsp; &nbsp;Witt Jr is a finalist alongside the Rangers Corey Seager and the Rays Taylor Walls.

Garcia was nominated for the first time in his career during what's been a breakout season.&nbsp; While Garcia showed massive improvement at the plate, hitting career bests in average (.286),&nbsp; doubles (39), home runs (16), and RBIs (74), he was just as impressive in the field.&nbsp; 

Garcia was second behind the Reds Ke'Bryan Hayes among MLB third baseman in Outs Above Average with 18, the best among the American League, with 14 runs prevented.&nbsp; Garcia is a finalist alongside the Guardians&nbsp;José Ramírez and Ernie Clement of the Blue Jays.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Isbel is a dark horse among the Royals candidates, a finalist for the first time in his career, that many might not have expected but quietly had one of the best defensive seasons of his career.&nbsp; Among MLB outfielders, Isbel is sixth in Outs Above Average with 12, with 11 runs prevented.&nbsp; He trails only the Red Sox&nbsp;Ceddanne Rafaela (21 OAA) and the Athletics Denzel Clarke (13 OAA) in the American League.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Isbel is a finalist alongside Rafeala and the Mariners&nbsp;Julio Rodríguez.

On the National League side, for the second time in his career, and second season in a row, St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn is a Gold Glove finalist.&nbsp; Winn lost the Gold Glove last year to the Colorado Rockies&nbsp;Ezquiel Tovar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This year, Winn looks in good position to take the honor home to St. Louis.&nbsp; The 23-year old Redbirds shortstop is ranked second among MLB shortstops, behind Witt Jr., in Outs Above Average with 21, with 16 runs prevented.&nbsp; Winn is a finalist alongside Nick Allen of the Atlanta Braves and&nbsp;Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

For the first time in his career, after becoming a mainstay in the Cardinals lineup this season, center fielder Victor Scott II was named a Gold Glove Finalist for the Redbirds.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While Scott II struggled at the plate at times, still batting .216 and driving in 37 runs, but striking out 111 times, it was his play in the field that made him valuable.&nbsp; Scott II was third among MLB outfielders, and National League outfielders, in Outs Above Average with 17, preventing 15 runs.&nbsp; He trailed only the Cubs Pete Crow-Armstrong in the National League. Scott II is a finalist alongside Crow-Amstrong and&nbsp;Jacob Young of the Nationals.

The Chicago Cubs had an MLB-best six players named finalists, and the Toronto Blue Jays also had six nominations for five players, with Clement vying for the award at third base and utility.&nbsp; Winners will be unveiled on ESPN on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Trio of Royals named AL Gold Glove finalists; Two Cardinals among NL finalists

The MIAA has announced it's&nbsp; football athletes for week seven, naming Northwest Missouri State quarterback Zechariah Owens Offensive Athlete of the Week.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Owen, a redshirt freshman, accounted for six touchdowns in Northwest's 49-32 win at Central Missouri.&nbsp; He&nbsp;rushed for four touchdowns and threw for two more. The six total touchdowns tied for the second-most touchdowns by a Northwest player in a single game in program history. The six touchdowns accounted for is the single-game high in the MIAA this season.

Owens surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career with a 124-yard effort against the Mules as well.&nbsp; He tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Luke Mathews for 28 yards and seven yards.&nbsp; Owens is one of two NCAA Div. II quarterbacks this season to have rushed for four touchdowns in a game - joining Minnesota-Duluth's Kyle Walljasper.&nbsp; He's also one of two MIAA players overall to have rushed for four scores this season, joining Nebraska-Kearney's Isaiah Harris.

It is the 17th time a Bearcat has scored four or more rushing touchdowns in a single game. Owens is only the third Bearcat quarterback to record four rushing touchdowns in a game. Owens joined Jeremy Wilson who posted four scores against Missouri Western on Sept. 2, 1989, and Tom Kruse who recorded four touchdowns vs. Nebraska-Kearney on Sept. 11, 1989.

Owens named MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week after standout performance over UCM

In what many Kansas City Chiefs players were calling a must win game, the entire Kansas City team stepped up to beat the Detroit Lions 30-17 on Sunday Night Football.&nbsp;

The Lions though, started the game with a huge advantage, consuming most of the clock in the first quarter and driving down the field in a 15 play drive.&nbsp; The drive first ended with a touchdown pass from running back David Montgomery to quarterback Jared Goff, but after discussion that was called back on illegal motion.&nbsp; After the penalty, Detroit settled for a 28 yard field goal from Jake Bates for a 3-0 lead.&nbsp;

Kansas City answered the field goal with an eight play drive, getting stopped at first on third down in the redzone at the Detroit six yard line.&nbsp; But on 4th and 3, the Chiefs went for it, and Patrick Mahomes found wide receiver Xavier Worthy on a shovel pass for the second year receivers first touchdown of the season.&nbsp; Harrison Butker though missed the extra point, and Kansas City would be up just 6-3 at the end of the first quarter.&nbsp;

The touchdown pass to Worthy was a special one for Mahomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;The touchdown marked the 300th of his career, making him the fastest quarterback to reach the mark.&nbsp; Mahomes says it's cool to hit such a milestone in his career

"I've been blessed, I always say it and I mean it, I got drafted here in Kansas City, a great community, great ownership, and then getting one of the best football coaches of all time and some of the greatest players of all time around me,"&nbsp;Mahomes says during his post game press conference at the podium.&nbsp; "And so makes my job a lot easier when I'm able to throw to some great ones and let's continue it, let's have some fun and we've got a long career ahead, let's see how many we can get to."

Mahomes reached 300 touchdowns in 130 games.  The next closest was Dan Marino who it took 147 games to hit the mark.

A six play drive by Detroit on the ensuing drive ended the first quarter, before the Lions scored in the early part of the second as Goff connected with Jameson Williams on a 22 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; &nbsp;After the touchdown, both teams turned the ball over on downs on back-to-back drives, before Kansas City answered near the end of the first half.&nbsp;

With 2:42 remaining in the half, the Chiefs used just over two minutes of clock over eight plays, driving all the way down to the goal line where Mahomes used his legs this time to rush the ball in from one yard out to give Kansas City the lead back.&nbsp; This time Butker converted his extra point attempt, and the Chiefs ended up taking a 13-10 lead to the halftime break.&nbsp;

Getting the ball to open the second half, Kansas City wasted no time extending their lead.&nbsp; An eight play drive ended with another touchdown, as for the second time this season, and the second time in his Chiefs career, Hollywood Brown found the endzone on a nine yard pass from Mahomes. Both teams exchanged punts, ending the third quarter with Kansas City up 20-10.&nbsp;

The Lions weren't giving up easily to start the fourth quarter, after Kansas City punted them the ball, using up the end of the third quarter during an eight play drive, and scoring at the beginning of the final frame on a four yard touchdown pass from Goff to tight end Sam LaPorta for their final score.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On the ensuing drive, the Chiefs would extend the lead again to two scores, driving nine plays this time.&nbsp; Mahomes ending the drive by finding Brown again for a touchdown, this time on a three yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; And after forcing the Lions to punt, Kansas City scored their final points with a field goal, Butker knocking it through from 33 yards out to seal the game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The offense again put together a good run and pass combination to move down the field.  Wide receiver Xavier Worthy says there's only one way things can go

"I mean we're only going to get better as an offense," Worthy tells reporters in the locker room after the game.&nbsp; "You get four (Rashee Rice) back next week, so it's going to be good getting him back in the offense and getting him going."

Worthy says he's excited to finally have Rashee Rice back on the field next week against the Las Vegas Raiders as he is eligible to return from suspension

"I mean shoot, finally get to see all the big three that you all wanted to see, so looking forward to it," Worthy says.

Stepping up in the game, less than 24 hours after the birth of his third child and spending the night in the hospital, was left tackle Jaylon Moore in the absence of rookie Josh Simmons. 

Moore says he gets enough reps with the first team offense during practice though that even on short notice, he was ready to go

"I feel like the biggest thing is mental reps," Moore explains.&nbsp; "I mean this is year five for me, so I've had a good amount of reps, so I'm not saying all of it is mental, but most of it is upstairs, and just making sure I'm being intentional with my work during the week."

Simmons missed the game due to a personal matter and was ruled out just hours before kickoff.

Mahomes passed for 257 yards going 22-for-30 through the air with three touchdowns, adding 10 carries for 32 yards and a score.&nbsp; Isiah Pacheco rushed 12 times for 51 yards.&nbsp; Travis Kelce had six catches for 78 yards while Brown had four catches for 45 yards and two scores.&nbsp; JuJu Smith-Schuster added three catches for 57 yards.

Kansas City is now 3-3 on the season, still sitting third in the AFC West after wins by the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos earlier in the day.&nbsp; The Chiefs next host the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium.&nbsp; Kickoff on Sunday is at noon.&nbsp; Pregame will air at 11am on both KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM) and Q Country (92.7 FM).

Bearcats stay perfect in MIAA, take sole possession of first place

Northwest Missouri State University&nbsp; stayed perfect in MIAA play with a 49-32 road triumph over the University of Central Missouri Mules.

Northwest produced 501 total yards and 358 on the ground and Zechariah Owens accounted for six touchdowns as the Bearcats took over sole possession of first place in the league standings.&nbsp; The victory marked Northwest's fifth consecutive win, their longest streak since a six-game run in the 2022 season.&nbsp;

After Northwest deferred the kickoff, to the second half to start the game, putting the UCM offense on the field first, the Mules capitalized on an early drive, concluding with a two yard touchdown run by Keyon Butler to take the early lead.&nbsp; After an interception thrown by Bearcat quarterback Chris Ruhnke, UCM extended their lead with a 24 yard passing touchdown to Hogan Wasson from Donovyn Omolo.

However, the Bearcats regained momentum as Zechariah Owens engineered a successful drive, capped by a touchdown pass to Luke Mathews, closing the quarter down by just one score.&nbsp; The second quarter began with Northwest capitalizing on a turnover forced by Zac McLeay, leading to a drive starting at the Mules' 21-yard line. Owens capped the possession with a one yard touchdown rush to tie up the game.

The Bearcats continued to press, as Te'Shaun Porter's effective ground game helped advance the ball into scoring position once again on their next drive, before Owens completed the drive with another short touchdown run giving Northwest the lead.&nbsp; The defense held strong, but UCM managed a late 31-yard field goal by Will Peacock as the second quarter ended with Northwest leading 21-17 at the halftime break.

The Bearcats opened the third period with a significant momentum shift, capitalizing on their possession. Quincy Torry's 55-yard touchdown run extended their lead over Central Missouri.&nbsp; Shortly after, Northwest's defense secured a crucial turnover, with Carter Edwards forcing a fumble recovered by Parker Bowen. This turnover was converted into another scoring drive, as Owens rushed for an eight yard touchdown late in the quarter pushing the Bearcats lead to 35-17 going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter began and the Mules narrowing the gap with an eight yard touchdown pass from Omolo to Marlon Lindsey. But, the Bearcats responded assertively, as Owens led a pivotal drive that culminated in a seven yard touchdown pass to Mathews to extend the Northwest lead again to three possessions.

Northwest's offense continued to press forward with Owens capitalizing on a vital 44-yard rushing touchdown. The Mules added another score late, with Omolo rushing in from 12 yards out, but Northwest's strategic ground game allowed them to control possession and run out the clock, securing the victory.

Owens led the offensive charge going 7-of-14&nbsp; through the air for 80 yardss with two touchdowns, and adding 124 rushing yards on 11 attempts, scoring four touchdown. Mathews contributed significantly to the receiving corps with nine catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns.&nbsp;

With six total touchdowns, Owens is now tied with Trevor Adams, Kyle Zimmerman, Zach Martin, and Mike Hohensee for the second-most touchdowns accounted for in a game for a Bearcat.&nbsp;

Northwest (5-1, 4-0 MIAA) is now set to face Fort Hays State in Maryville on Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m

Late turnovers end MoWest's fight in loss against Nebraska-Kearney

Missouri Western State University battled hard for more than three quarters, trailing by just six points with 12 minutes to go, but three second half turnovers cost the Griffons in a 27-7 loss at Nebraska-Kearney on their homecoming.

UNK struck first on a 78-yard touchdown strike from Daron Bryden to Dae'vonn Hall, but the point-after was blocked by MoWest's Kameron Neal, making it 6-0 with 10:10 remaining in the first quarter. which is where the score remained through the remainder of the first half.

The Griffons got the ball to start the second half, but on the third play of the series, Dylan Jordan stripped a ball from Brandon Hall and recovered the fumble at the Griffon 44-yard line. The Lopers scored four plays later as Byden found Jaden Jude for a 20 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; This time kicker Kyle Failing converted the extra poing putting UNK ahead 13-0.

Trailing by two possessions, MoWest sent in quarterback Branden Berwald, who led an eight-play, 75-yard drive down the field, ending in a 20-yard touchdown throw to Crew Myers, to finally get the Griffons on the board with their only score.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Griffon defense, who forced UNK to punt seven times and also forced a turnover-on-downs, forced the Lopers into three consecutive drives that ended in punt in the second half, eventually giving MoWest 1st-and-10 on their own six-yard-line, down by six points, with 11:41 to play.

It's about then, however, when things turned permanently in favor of UNK. On a 3rd-and-8, Berwald threw an interception to Ja'Mareion Gipson, which the Lopers scored a touchdown on two plays later as Bryden connected with Jude again for a 21 yard strike.&nbsp; Trailing again by three possessions, Kane Donovan re-entered the game at quarterback and threw a 34-yard pick-six to Gipson on a third down play, making it 27-7.

Donovan completed 20-of-27 passes for 99 yards. Berwald accounted for 67 all-purpose yards and the passing TD. Brandon Hall rushed seven times for 71 yards.&nbsp; Myers finished with career-highs in receptions with (seven), yards (71) and the touchdown grab was the first of his college career.

MoWest (1-5, 0-4 MIAA) is back home on Saturday to face #15 Pittsburg State. Kickoff in the annual Rogers Pharmacy Hall of Fame game is set for 6 p.m.

#14 Missouri punches up, but falls short against #8 Alabama

Ty Simpson threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns, including the clincher on fourth down to Daniel Hill with 3:16 to go, and #8 Alabama held off #14 Missouri 27-24 to give the Crimson Tide their fifth consecutive win.

Jam Miller added 85 yards rushing before leaving with a concussion in the fourth quarter, and Kevin Riley and Isaiah Horton also had touchdown catches for Alabama, which has won seven straight over Missouri dating to Sept. 8, 1975.

Beau Pribula kept punching for the Tigers, too, hitting Donovan Olugbode for a touchdown with 1:39 left. And after the Crimson Tide pounced on the onside kick, Missouri forced a quick punt to get the ball back with 1:17 still on the clock.&nbsp; Pribula connected with Olugbode again on fourth down to get close to midfield, but he followed with two incompletions. Then on third down, Pribula overshot his target and was picked off by Alabama defensive back Dijon Lee Jr. to put the game away.&nbsp; The loss ended the Tigers' 15-game home winning streak, the second-longest nationally.

Missouri got off to a good start, seemingly stunning Alabama on its opening drive. It took just six plays to march 78 yards, and Pribula threw a nifty lob to tight end Brett Norfleet down the sideline for a 26-yard touchdown.&nbsp; Yet the Crimson Tide not only regained their composure, they regained control.

Simpson was nearly perfect on an answering touchdown drive, driving down and finding Kevin Riley for a six yard score to tie the game. And after Missouri went three-and-out, the junior quarterback drove the Crimson Tide downfield again, zipping a pass to Horton on third-and-long for a 16-yard touchdown pass that made it 14-7.

After each team added a field goal before halftime, 46 yards from Alabama's Conor Talty and 35 yards from the Tigers Robert Meyer with no time left in the first half, going to the halftime break with the Crimson Tide leading 17-10, Missouri took advantage of Simpson's fumble, his only big mistake, on the first play of the second half. Pribula juked his way into the end zone three plays later to tie the game.&nbsp; The Tigers though were never able to regain the lead.

Conor Talty added a go-ahead field goal later in the third quarter for Alabama, and the Crimson Tide stopped Missouri on fourth down midway through the fourth quarter, shoving Jamal Roberts out of bounds just shy of the marker on a fake punt attempt.&nbsp; Replays appeared to show the running back reaching the ball far enough for a first down, but the spot was upheld by the officials.

Alabama took over and, after Simpson converted on fourth-and-8 with a throw to freshman Lotzeir Brooks, the SEC's top passer found Hill in the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the Missouri two yard line with just over three minutes remaining to put it out of reach.

Pribula finished with 167 yards passing going 16-for-28 through the air with two touchdowns and two interceptions.&nbsp; He also was the Tigers' most effective runner with 61 yards on 11 carries and another score. The nation's leading rusher, Ahmad Hardy, was held to just 52 yards on 12 rushes.&nbsp; Olugbode, the freshman, had three catches for 55 yards with a score while Norfleet had three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Next, Missouri (5-1, 1-1 SEC) finally hits the road for the first time this season playing Auburn on Saturday.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 6:45pm and the game will air on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

Kansas State dominates in all phases to score big win over TCU

 Avery Johnson threw three touchdown passes , two to tight end Garrett Oakley, and Kansas State added two defensive touchdowns to defeat TCU 41-28. Des Purnell also had two interceptions, including a pick six, for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats and Horned Frogs traded blows in the second quarter after both teams were scoreless through the first.&nbsp; Jeremy Payne scored on a one yard touchdown run for TCU to open the scoring, before Kansas State answered with Johnson's first touchdown pass of the day to Oakley for 32 yards to tie the game.&nbsp; Just before the two minute warning, the Kansas State defense gave the Wildcats the lead when Wesley Fair returned a fumble for a touchdown, giving Kansas State a 14-7 lead at the halftime break.

The Wildcats took a two-score lead early in the third quarter with its second defensive touchdown of the game. Purnell picked off Josh Hoover and raced 25 yards for the score.&nbsp; Johnson then found Garrett Oakley for his second touchdown, this time from 17 yards out, to give the Wildcats a 28-7 lead with 3:57 left in the third quarter. With that touchdown, Oakley became the all-time leader in touchdown catches among K-State tight ends.

TCU used a seven-play, 75-yard drive in just 1:51 to draw within two scores late in the third quarter. Hoover found Chase Curtis on a two yard touchdown pass on fourth down.&nbsp; But, on the ensuing drive, Johnson found Jarend Bradley for a 12-yard touchdown to give K-State a three touchdown lead.

Hoover connected with Eric McAlister for an 85-yard touchdown in just one play, but after a Kansas State punt gave the Horned Frogs the ball back on the next drive, Purnell's second interception in TCU territory set up a Luis Rodriguez field goal from 19 yards away.&nbsp; Rodriguez also hit a 36 yard field goal after a turnover on downs by TCU, before the Horned Frogs scored on their final drive in five plays with Hoover finding McAlister again for a 37 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp;

Johnson finished 16-of-26 passing for 196 yards with three touchdown passes.&nbsp; Joe Jackson rushed 27 times for 110 yards.&nbsp; Oakley had four catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaron Tibbs had three catches for 51 yards.

&nbsp;Kansas State (3-4, 2-2 Big 12)&nbsp; has a bye before its “Sunflower Showdown” game at Kansas Oct. 25.

Jayhawks can't sustain momentum after injury to Tech's Morton in loss

 Cameron Dickey ran for a career-high 263 yards and two long touchdowns, Will Hammond scored twice after replacing injured quarterback Behren Morton and #9 Texas Tech beat Kansas 42-17.

Dickey sprinted 71 yards on the first offensive play for the Red Raiders and added a 55-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. With co-lead back J'Koby Williams slowed by an injury, Dickey had 21 carries, another career best.&nbsp; Texas Tech had 372 yards rushing and recovered from a malaise after Morton's injury in the school's first game as an AP top 10 team since 2013.

Following the opening score from Dickey, the Red Raiders added two more scores in the first quarter, capitalizing on a Jayhawks fumble and adding a touchdown on a 21 yard pass from Morton to Terrance Carter Jr., converting a two point conversion on a run by JohnCarlos Miller II.&nbsp; Then after a Kansas punt putting up a 25 yard field goal from Upton Bellenfant, giving the Red Raiders a 18-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Stone Harrington hit a 40 yard field goal to put the Red Raiders up 21-0, but that Texas Tech lead was down to four points at the break when the Jayhawks scored on three of their first four possessions after Morton appeared to injure his lower right leg on a sack in the second quarter. He didn't return.&nbsp; Daniels threw touchdown passes to LeShon Williams and Boden Groen, of 10 and 24 yards respectively, before Laith Marjan hit a 55 yard field goal with no time remaining to make it 21-17 at the halftime break.

Hammond opened the scoring in the second half for Texas Tech as the Red Raiders went on to take all the momentum back, running 20 yards for a touchdown on the first drive of the second half.&nbsp; Dickey's second long touchdown put Texas Tech up 35-17, and Hammond's 10-yard run finished the scoring.

Jalon Daniels threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns for Kansas, which dropped to 1-12 in Lubbock and has lost 24 of 26 meetings with the Red Raiders.&nbsp; Daniel Hishaw Jr ran eight times for 53 yards.&nbsp; Groen had 13 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown, while Cam Pickett had six catches for 55 yards.

Kansas (4-3, 2-2 Big 12) is off next week before getting rival Kansas State at home Oct. 25.

Raiola overcomes turnovers to throw late TD for win over Maryland

Dylan Raiola threw a three yard touchdown pass to Dane Key with 1:08 remaining, and Nebraska edged Maryland 34-31. Raiola threw for 260 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in a wild game in which the Cornhuskers squandered a 10-point lead. But after going 10-35 in its last 45 one-score games entering this season, Nebraska is 2-1 in those situations this year.

The Terrapins led 31-24 in the fourth quarter before Emmett Johnson’s 50-yard run gave Nebraska the ball at the Maryland 10. The shifty running back didn’t get the ball again on that drive, and a delay of game penalty on fourth down forced the Cornhuskers&nbsp; to settle for a field goal and a four-point deficit.

Nebraska then got the ball back, and Raiola guided his team 81 yards in seven plays for the go-ahead TD. Maryland then drove back near midfield, but freshman Malik Washington was called for a disputed intentional grounding penalty that knocked the Terps back 14 yards.&nbsp; Washington had a receiver open to the left on that play and perhaps would have seen him if he'd had more time. He eventually threw incomplete on fourth-and-4 from the Nebraska 49 to end Maryland's chances.

The Cornhuskers&nbsp; opened the scoring on an explosive 64-yard catch-and-run by Nyziah Hunter from Raila. An offensive pass interference penalty wiped out a touchdown later in the first quarter, and the Cornhuskers settled for a field goal which started the scoring in a back and forth second quarter.

Nolan Ray ran for a 28-yard touchdown for Maryland, and the Terps cashed in on Raiola's first interception when Washington found Leon Haughton Jr. for a 21-yard touchdown pass to give the Terps a 14-10 lead.&nbsp; An 85-yard kick return by Kenneth Williams set up Raiola's seven yard touchdown pass to Luke Lindenmeyer, and after a Maryland punt his 12-yard TD throw to Hunter made it 24-14 for the Cornhuskers.

Raiola was picked off again toward the end of the half, and Maryland managed a field goal before halftime. The Terps took the opening drive of the third and tied the game on a oneyard scoring run by DeJuan Williams.&nbsp; &nbsp;Dontay Joyner scored on a 67-yard interception return in the third quarter for Maryland to give the Terps the lead again 31-24.

Johnson ran for 176 yards for Nebraska.&nbsp; Hunter had five catches for 125 yards with two touchdowns, while Key had four catches for 43 yards with a score.

Next, Nebraska (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) plays at Minnesota on Friday night. Kickoff is at 7pm and the game will air on Fox.

Trevor Lawrence tripped, got up and scrambled for a one yard touchdown with 23 seconds remaining, turning a laughable miscue into an improbable score , and the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28 on Monday Night Football in Jacksonville.&nbsp; 

Patrick Mahomes accounted for two touchdowns, and Kareem Hunt ran for two more scores for Kansas City, which had won 23 straight when leading by at least 14 points. The Chiefs took an early 14-0 lead, thanks in part to a fumble by Lawrence at the goal line.&nbsp; After the teams exchanged punts on three consecutive drives, Kansas City first scored in the opening quarter with a two yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Travis Kelce.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After Lawrence's fumble at the goal line, ending a nine play drive by the Jaguars, the Chiefs needed just five plays to drive down for the score to extend the lead with Mahomes using his legs this time, rushing in for a nine yard touchdown.&nbsp; &nbsp;Jacksonville answered with a long 13 play drive down the field to cut the score to one possession, Lawrence finding Parker Washington for a three yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Kansas City went to halftime up 14-7.&nbsp;

Jaguars two-way standout Travis Hunter made two big-time plays, including the fourth-longest reception by a rookie this season. Hunter hauled in a 44-yarder in the third quarter.&nbsp; The Heisman Trophy winner jumped and reached over Chamarri Conner to snare the ball and then held on despite getting his legs wiped out by Bryan Cook. The Jaguars scored four plays later on a 10 yard rushing touchdown from Lawrence to tie the game at 14-all.

Disaster struck as Kanas City was marching down the field to answer the touchdown.&nbsp; Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd, the AFC defensive player of the month for September, returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown. It was the longest interception return by a linebacker in NFL history.&nbsp; On the ensuing drive, the Chiefs were forced to punt, but then Trent McDuffie got his first interception of the season, setting up Kansas City to drive to tie the game.

Two plays after the interception, Hunt found the endzone for his first touchdown of the night to tie the game at 21.&nbsp; Jaguars kicker Cam Little hit a 52 yard field goal to put Jacksonville up by three points on the next drive, but again the Chiefs drove down as the teams traded blows, scoring after a 12 play drive, Hunt rushing in again from two yards out, to put Kansas City up 28-24.&nbsp; Before Lawrence led his game winning drive.&nbsp;

Lawrence was perfect when it mattered most for the Jaguars. He dropped a precision pass to Brian Thomas Jr. for a 33-yard gain on the go-ahead drive and then hit Dyami Brown for another big gain.&nbsp; Conner was flagged for pass interference against Thomas on the next play, setting up Lawrence's trip and score.&nbsp; The crazy ending halted the Jags' eight-game losing streak to the Chiefs.

Mahomes was 29-for-41 through the air for 318 yards with a touchdown and an interception, adding six rushes for 60 yards and a score.&nbsp; Hunt rushed seven times for 49 yards with two touchdowns, while Isiah Pacheco ran seven times for 36 yards.&nbsp; Tyquan Thornton had three catches for 90 yards.&nbsp; Kelce had seven catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Wide receiver Xavier Worthy hobbled off the field in the third quarter after appearing to tweak an ankle but returned a few plays later. Worthy had been listed as questionable because he got off the team flight with a swollen ankle. Chiefs rookie left tackle Josh Simmons played despite being added to the injury report shortly before kickoff with an illness.

The Chiefs (2-3) next host the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 7:20pm with pregame at 6 on both KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM) and Q Country 92.7 (92.7 FM).

Chiefs can't overcome Lawrence's late rush in 31-28 loss to Jaguars on MNF

MoWest offense struggles falling on Homecoming to Emporia State

The Missouri Western State University Griffons suffered a 50-14 loss to Emporia State in the annual Homecoming game at Spratt Stadium.

MoWest, who starts 0-3 in the MIAA for the first time since 2008, threw an interception on the fourth play from scrimmage, which Emporia turned into a touchdown just four plays later with a 13 yard touchdown pass from Ben Harris to&nbsp;Malik O'Atis.&nbsp; On the ensuing drive, pinned deep on their own end, MoWest's Spencer Sprenger's punt was blocked in his own end zone and recovered by Emporia State's Divante Herrig-Brittian, making it 14-0 at the 12:35 mark of the first quarter.

The Griffons punted on five consecutive drives in the first half, and the Hornets scored twice more in the first quarter, on touchdown passes from Harris to Kingsley Bennett of 18 yards and 24 yards to make it 28-0 heading into the second quarter.&nbsp; And early in the second Emporia State, who scored touchdowns on four of their first six drives, extended their lead after a one-yard touchdown run by Camden Crooks with 10:29 left before halftime.

MoWest at last responded, putting together a 19-play, 89-yard drive that lasted over eight minutes, capped off with a six-yard touchdown pass from Kane Donovan to Malik Moore, making it 35-7 at the halftime break.&nbsp; Emporia State was limited to just a field goal in the third quarter, but the Griffons had only a punt and a pair of turnovers-on-downs in the third, and got no closer.

The Hornets added to their total when Aiden Hicks picked off MoWest quarterback Kody Kirk and ran it back 40 yards for a pick-six with 12:09 to play in the game.&nbsp; Kirk recovered on the ensuing drive, finding Moore for a 24-yard touchdown pass , making it 44-14 with 9:11 to play.&nbsp; The Hornets scored a late touchdown with 56 seconds left, a 10 yard touchdown run from Max Middleton, but MoWest blocked each of the Hornets' last two point-after tries.

&nbsp;Donovan completed 24-of-50 passes for 183 yards with a touchdown and a pick.&nbsp;&nbsp; Kirk completed 8-of-11 passes for 78 yards and a score to go with the INT.&nbsp; Moore grabbed six passes for 62 yards and two scores while Gyasi Smith caught a team-best seven passes for 65 yards.

MoWest (1-4, 0-3 MIAA) is back on the road Saturday to face Nebraska-Kearney. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

#3 Ravens win streak moves to four with another dominant victory

Ahead of their bye week, the #3 Benedictine Ravens extended their win streak to four games with another dominant victory, beating Missouri Baptist on the road 52-21 on Saturday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Spartans struck first but were unable to slow the Ravens' balanced attack, as Benedictine rolled up 464 yards of total offense and converted all eight red-zone opportunities in the Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup.

Missouri Baptist scored with a nine yard touchdown run from quarterback Jacob Jones, capping an 11-play, 75-yard opening drive that consumed nearly six minutes. Benedictine answered late in the period when quarterback Jackson Dooley punched in a one yard score to even the game at 7–7.

The Ravens took control though in the second quarter, scoring on three straight possessions, a two yard run by Xavier Ugorji, a 21-yard touchdown pass from Dooley to Kameron Dover, and a 25-yard field goal from Christian Klobe giving Benedictine a 24-7 lead that they took into the halftime break.

Another Ugorji touchdown extended Benedictine's lead to 31–7 out of the break, but the Spartans responded quickly. Jones found Gavin Claud deep down the sideline for a 56-yard touchdown to trim the deficit to. The Ravens countered with a short touchdown pass from Dooley to Tyler Watson to make it 38–14 though entering the final quarter of action.

Benedictine opened the fourth with a 19-yard rushing touchdown from JJ Jackson, but Jones powered in from a yard out on Missouri Baptist's next possession to pull within 45–21. The Ravens added a final score with a three yard run by Derrick Overstreet to seal the final score.&nbsp;

Dooley was 12-for-29 through the air for 148 yards with two touchdowns. Ugorji rushed 24 times for 142 yards with two scores.&nbsp;&nbsp;Joseph Lagafuaina had two catches for 41 yards while Lebron Jackson had three catches for 37 yards as the leading receivers.&nbsp;

Benedictine (5-1, 1-0 Heart) is off next week.&nbsp; They are back in action on October 18th in Fayette, MO at Central Methodist.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 1pm

Jayhawks defense stymies UCF to escape Orlando with narrow win

&nbsp;Kansas’ defense came up with two decisive plays to help the Jayhawks beat UCF 27-20 on Saturday night.

The defense set up the Jayhawks’ go-ahead touchdown with a strip sack and a fumble recovery late in the third quarter. Kansas’ Trey Lathan recovered a fumble by Knights quarterback Tayven Jackson at the UCF two yard line after a strip sack by Jalen Dye, setting up a go-ahead, two yard touchdown run by Leshon Williams to make it 27-20.

Lathan then tackled UCF quarterback Cam Fancher on fourth and goal from the Kansas 1 with 1:47 to play to help the Jayhawks secure the victory.&nbsp; UCF drove to the Kansas 22 in the last minute, but four straight incompletions that included a pass breakup in the end zone by Austin Alexander ended the Knights’ final threat.

Kansas needed to erase a 14-0 lead built by UCF after running back Myles Montgomery and the Knights ran all over the Jayhawks in the first half.&nbsp; Montgomery ran for a 29 yard touchdown in the first quarter, and then in the second quarter added a three yard rushing score, as&nbsp;Montgomery rushed for 99 of his 110 yards in the first half.

The Jayhawks cut into the deficit with Williams first touchdown of the day, a one yard score.&nbsp; The Knights extended the lead on the ensuing drive with a 38 yard field goal from Noe Ruelas, but again Kansas struck to cut it to a one possession game as Williams scored again on a four yard dash.&nbsp; Ruelas hit another 38 yard field goal with four seconds left in the half, sending the game to the halftime break with the Knights leading 20-14.

Kansas held UCF to 122 yards in the second half, giving the Jayhawks the cushion to climb back into the game, first tying the game up on field goals by Laith Marjan of 33 and 41 yards, before the defensive play allowed Williams to score his third touchdown and Kansas to take the lead.

Jalon Daniels led the charge for Kansas, throwing for 235 yards on 18 for 26 passing. Williams rushed for 58 yards and three touchdowns.&nbsp; Cam Pickett was the leading receiver with five catches for 64 yards.&nbsp;

Kansas (4-2, 2-1 Big 12)&nbsp; stays on the road Saturday and travels to face #11 Texas Tech.&nbsp; Kickoff is set for 6:30pm and the game will air on Fox.

Late turnover leads to another one possession loss for Kansas State

Connor Hawkins kicked a 53-yard field goal with 31 seconds left after Jacob Redding's go-ahead 66-yard interception return for a touchdown as Baylor rallied twice in the fourth quarter for a 35-34 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.

Hawkins matched the longest kick of his career after Luis Rodriguez had put the Wildcats in front with a 22-yard field goal with 1:48 remaining. Kansas State had to settle for the kick after having a first down at the Baylor two yard line.

Rodriguez had a chance for a game-winner from 56 yards, but 6-foot-4 defensive end Cooper Lanz blocked it with two seconds to go. The Bears&nbsp; held on two weeks after losing to Arizona State on a game-ending field goal in their previous home game.

Through the first half of the game, the Wildcats and the Bears traded blows.&nbsp; Kansas State took the first lead of the game in the opening quarter on a 31 yard touchdown run by Avery Johnson.&nbsp; Hawkins hit a 30 yard field goal late in the first to cut into the lead, before Baylor took the lead to open the second quarter on a touchdown pass from Sawyer Robertson to Kobe Prentice.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rodriguez tied the game with a 49 yard field goal, before the Bears answered to steal the lead back with a touchdown on the ensuing drive with a 17 yard touchdown run from Michael Turner.&nbsp; Near the end of the first half, the Wildcats managed to tie the game up as Johnson connected with Garrett Oakley for a nine yard touchdown pass which sent the game to the halftime break tied at 17-17.&nbsp;
