Another solid start from Ryan Bergert for the Kansas City Royals, ended in yet another no decision as the Royals came from behind thanks to the power of home runs from Jonathan India and Adam Frazier to beat the Chicago White Sox 6-2 for a series sweep on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

Bergert gave up the lead early in the first inning, giving up a solo home run to&nbsp;Lenyn Sosa with one out.&nbsp; The rookie settled in after that, and didn't give up another run until the sixth inning after Andrew Benintendi reached second on a fielding error by Frazier.&nbsp; Benintendi scored in the next at bat as Edgar Quero singled off Bergert to drive in the former Royal, giving Chicago the 2-0 lead.&nbsp;

Angel Zerpa replaced Bergert following the single, and got through the remainder of the inning with two strikeouts.&nbsp; Sam Long relieved Zerpa in the seventh inning, which after getting through the top half is where the Royals tied up the game on India's two run home run, driving in Frazier after his two out double as Kansas City rallied back late in the game.&nbsp;

Lucas Erceg replaced Long on the mound to start the eighth inning, and after getting the first two outs put himself in danger with a walk and a double, but punched out Mike Tauchman to end the inning.&nbsp; In the bottom half, Kansas City took the lead, first with Maikel Garcia singling home Bobby Witt Jr, and later scoring on a single by Salvador Perez, before Perez scored on Frazier's two run blast for the final runs.&nbsp;

Erceg improved to 5-3 earning the win pitching the scoreless eighth inning giving up one hit and striking out one while walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Frazier was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs.&nbsp; India was 1-for-3 with a walk, the home run, and two RBIs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kansas City now turns around to host Texas starting tomorrow.&nbsp; Michael Wacha (7-9, 3.35 ERA) takes the mound for the Royals to open the series against Jack Leiter (7-6, 3.94 ERA) for the Rangers.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:40pm with pregame coverage beginning at 6 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).&nbsp;

India, Frazier power Royals to come from behind series win

The New York Yankees muscled up for three homers, Trent Grisham scored a career-high four runs, and Ben Rice matched a career high with seven RBIs in a 12-8 win on Saturday night, securing a eries victory at Busch Stadium over the St. Louis Cardinals.

&nbsp;Grisham singled four times and scored the four runs, and Ryan McMahon hit his first homer since being acquired by the Yankees to overcome a shaky start by Max Fried.

Masyn Winn hit a three-run homer and Nolan Gorman had a two-run shot for St. Louis as Fried yielded multiple homers for the third time this season.

Sonny Gray (allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings as St. Louis lost its fourth in a row.&nbsp; Rice had three of New York’s 15 hits and finished a triple short of the cycle.

Aaron Judge led off the third with his 39th home run, which bounced off the top of the wall and into the front row of the right-field bleachers. Judge, who has played his entire career with the Yankees, has now homered against every other major league team.

He also had an RBI double in the first and drew two walks. Judge hadn’t delivered multiple hits in a game since July 13 against the Cubs.

After putting New York ahead with a three-run homer off Gray in the fourth, Rice added a three-run double off reliever Kyle Leahy in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-5.&nbsp; With a run-scoring single in the seventh, Rice matched his RBI total from July 6, 2024, when he homered three times in a 14-4 win over Boston.

Yankees power back from early deficit to top Cardinals 12-9

Vinnie Pasquantino departed the game early due to a heat related illness, but John Rave stepped in and stepped up in his place, helping the Kansas City Royals to a series clinching win over the Chicago White Sox, winning 6-2 on a hot Saturday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.&nbsp;

It was&nbsp;Mike Yastrzemski though that gave the Royals the lead first, leading off the Kansas City half of the first inning with a solo home run, his 11th of the season to right center field. Bobby Witt Jr singled and stole second in the inning, but three straight outs following the steal ended the inning with just the lone run scored.&nbsp;

In the second inning, Kansas City extended their lead with another one run inning.&nbsp; Randal Grichuk led off with a double, and Nick Loftin walked, before Kyle Isbel reached first on a fielders choice, scoring Grichuk.&nbsp; In the third inning, Rave came through after Witt Jr struck out to begin the inning, hitting his fourth home run of the season to push the Royals lead to 3-0.&nbsp;

In the fifth inning, Kansas City continued their scoring frenzy pushing their lead ahead more with two more runs.&nbsp;&nbsp;Yastrzemski walked to lead off the inning and with one out Rave singled on a bunt, both coming home to score on Maikel Garcia's 32nd double of the season that pushed the Royals lead to 5-0.&nbsp;

Kansas City scored their final run in the sixth inning, an RBI single by Loftin driving in Adam Frazier after his leadoff single to the inning.&nbsp; In the eighth inning with two outs the White Sox scored both their runs on a two RBI double from former Royal&nbsp;Andrew Benintendi, scoring&nbsp;Colson Montgomery who doubled with two outs and Luis Robert Jr who walked.&nbsp;

Daniel Lynch earned the win in relief, improving to 5-2 on the season, pitching two innings and giving up just one hit.&nbsp; In his first start since returning from the injured list, Michael Lorenzen took a no decision pitching four innings while giving up three hits and striking out three while walking two.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rave steps up to help Royals top White Sox 6-2

It was a dramatic scene as Hunter Goodman hit a pinch hit home run in the ninth inning to complete the comeback for the Colorado Rockies, giving them a series win over the St. Louis Cardinals, defeating the Redbirds 6-5 at Busch Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.&nbsp;

The Cardinals took the lead in the second inning with two outs after back to back singles by Lars Nootbaar and Thomas Saggese put runners on and both scored on a double by&nbsp;Pedro Pagés.&nbsp; The Rockies cut the lead to one in the fourth inning, an RBI single by Ezequiel Tovar driving in Tyler Freeman, but St. Louis got that run back in the bottom half of the inning with Nootbaar hitting a solo home run to right center field, putting the Redbirds up 3-1 after four innings.&nbsp;

Braxton Fulford grounded out in the fifth inning, scoring Kyle Karros for the Rockies to again cut the St. Louis lead to one.&nbsp; But again in the bottom half of the inning, the Cardinals got that run back, plus one more putting up two runs on a two run home run by Alec Burleson, bringing home Masyn Winn who singled to open the inning.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Colorado began their comeback in the sixth and seventh innings.&nbsp; Mickey Moniak first hit a solo home run to right center field in the sixth inning, his 18th of the season, before in the seventh inning Fulford again drove in Karros, this time with a sacrifice fly, after Karros doubled earlier in the inning to cut the Cardinals lead to 5-4.&nbsp;

In the ninth inning Karros again got on base, walking to open the inning, and after Brenton Doyle struck out against Cardinals closer JoJo Romero, Goodman was brought on to pinch hit for Fulford,&nbsp; five pitches later, Goodman blasted a sinker over the center-field wall to complete the comeback.

Romero took the loss, falling to 4-4 on the season and blowing his first save, pitching the one inning and giving up the two runs on two hits while striking out three and walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Burleson was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.&nbsp; Nootbaar was also 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI.&nbsp;

Comeback victory gives Rockies series win over Cardinals at Busch

The Kansas City Royals came from behind, battling back after giving up five runs in the first inning, but fell giving up a run in the ninth inning, winning the series but dropping the finale to the Washington Nationals 8-7 at Kauffman Stadium.&nbsp;

An early grand slam put the first runs on the board for the Nationals in the first inning, Nathaniel Lowe putting the ball over the right field wall and driving in James Wood, Luis Garcia, and Josh Bell with one out in the inning.&nbsp; Daylen Lile singled following the grand slam then scored in the next at bat on an RBI double by Drew Millas for the final run of the inning putting Washington up 5-0 at the end of their half of the first.&nbsp;

Kansas City cut the lead to three in the bottom half, Vinnie Pasquantino driving in the first run on a groundout and scoring&nbsp;Mike Yastrzemski after he led the inning off with a walk.&nbsp; With two outs Bobby Witt Jr scored the second run on an RBI single by Adam Frazier.&nbsp; The Royals did add one more run in the second inning following a scoreless frame by the Nationals, Witt Jr's RBI single driving in John Rave after his leadoff single to the second.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Leading 5-3 Washington extended their lead in the third inning with an RBI single by Brady House, scoring Lile, and moved farther ahead in the fourth inning on a home run by CJ Abrams.&nbsp; In the bottom half of the fourth, Kansas City again cut into the lead, cutting it to one run on a three run home run from Pasquantino, driving in Yastrzemski and Witt Jr to put the Royals down 7-6 at the end of four innings.&nbsp;

The Royals did finally tie the game in the eighth inning, a sacrifice fly from Witt Jr scoring Tyler Tolbert who pinch ran for Kyle Isbel, but in the ninth inning against closer&nbsp;Carlos Estévez, with two outs, Luis Garcia scored on an RBI single by Lile.&nbsp; In the bottom half, Kansas City did get the tying run to third base with two outs, but Tolbert grounded into a force out to end the game.&nbsp;

Estévez took the loss, falling to 4-5 on the season, pitching just the one inning and giving up the one run on two hits while striking out one and walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Witt Jr was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.&nbsp; Pasquantino was 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs.

Kansas City is off on Thursday before hosting Chicago on Friday.&nbsp; Noah Cameron (6-5, 2.52 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Royals against Aaron Civale (3-7, 4.91 ERA) for the White Sox.&nbsp; First pitch is at 7:10pm, pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).&nbsp;

By MATT PIKEThe Kansas City Royals came from behind, battling back after giving up five runs in the first inning, but fell giving up a run in the ninth inning, winning the series but dropping the finale to the Washington Nationals 8-7 at Kauffman Stadium.&nbsp;An early grand slam put the first runs on the board for the Nationals in the first inning, Nathaniel Lowe putting the ball over the right field wall and driving in James Wood, Luis Garcia, and Josh Bell with one out in the inning.&nbsp; Daylen Lile singled following the grand slam then scored in the next at bat on an RBI double by Drew Millas for the final run of the inning putting Washington up 5-0 at the end of their half of the first.&nbsp;Kansas City cut the lead to three in the bottom half, Vinnie Pasquantino driving in the first run on a groundout and scoring&nbsp;Mike Yastrzemski after he led the inning off with a walk.&nbsp; With two outs Bobby Witt Jr scored the second run on an RBI single by Adam Frazier.&nbsp; The Royals did add one more run in the second inning following a scoreless frame by the Nationals, Witt Jr's RBI single driving in John Rave after his leadoff single to the second.&nbsp;&nbsp;Leading 5-3 Washington extended their lead in the third inning with an RBI single by Brady House, scoring Lile, and moved farther ahead in the fourth inning on a home run by CJ Abrams.&nbsp; In the bottom half of the fourth, Kansas City again cut into the lead, cutting it to one run on a three run home run from Pasquantino, driving in Yastrzemski and Witt Jr to put the Royals down 7-6 at the end of four innings.&nbsp;<div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">Mashed. <a href="https://t.co/MPkB4YcOjN">pic.twitter.com/MPkB4YcOjN</a>&mdash; Kansas City Royals (@Royals) <a href="https://twitter.com/Royals/status/1955714821124501668?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 13, 2025</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div>The Royals did finally tie the game in the eighth inning, a sacrifice fly from Witt Jr scoring Tyler Tolbert who pinch ran for Kyle Isbel, but in the ninth inning against closer&nbsp;Carlos Estévez, with two outs, Luis Garcia scored on an RBI single by Lile.&nbsp; In the bottom half, Kansas City did get the tying run to third base with two outs, but Tolbert grounded into a force out to end the game.&nbsp;Estévez took the loss, falling to 4-5 on the season, pitching just the one inning and giving up the one run on two hits while striking out one and walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Witt Jr was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.&nbsp; Pasquantino was 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs.Kansas City is off on Thursday before hosting Chicago on Friday.&nbsp; Noah Cameron (6-5, 2.52 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Royals against Aaron Civale (3-7, 4.91 ERA) for the White Sox.&nbsp; First pitch is at 7:10pm, pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).&nbsp;You can follow Matt on X @KfeqMatt.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Royals win series but drop finale to Nationals 8-7

As "Closing Time" blared from the speakers, the traditional final song of Training Camp, the Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up their time in St. Joseph. 

Head Coach Andy Reid thanked everyone at Missouri Western State University for another successful camp on the St. Joseph campus

"The people up here have been phenomenal," Reid tells reporters following practice.  "They feed us, they house us, they baby us, they keep this field looking groomed like they do, and the facility cleaned up, and so we appreciate that."

Reid says the team really attacked this camp with the right frame of mind

"I mentioned it to them last night that there wasn't one of those days where we had a hiccup day, where everything was just not right, the biorhythms were down, we didn't have one of those," Reid explains.

While coming to St. Joseph might not be for some on the team, Patrick Mahomes says he actually likes coming here for camp

"It's like the best practice fields that you can possibly have and the weather kind of held off pretty well, except for like one day, it was pretty good weather all camp long," Mahomes says.  "Even though the dorms, I could do without the dorms, but everything else like I have fun out here and I'm excited now to get home and see my kids. but at the same time you kind of get away and you focus just on football and it kind of locks you in for whenever you go back you're in football season and you're not in that offseason."

Mahomes spent much of the final practice in St. Joseph during Chiefs Training Camp with the scout team, and not in his usual spot with the starters. 

Early indication from Reid is that Mahomes, along with some other starters, may not play in Friday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. 

Mahomes says he always wants to play, but at the end of the day he trusts Reid

"He has a reason for everything that he does, I'll be ready to play this week and if I get to play I'll be ready to go and if I don't, I'll be ready to go again the next week, and if I'm not I'll be just as energized on the sideline as I would be if I was playing in the game," Mahomes says.  "And so, I trust in Coach Reid fully, and so whatever his decision is I'll be ready to go out there and get the most I can out of it."

The Chiefs and Seahawks kick off at 9pm on Friday, pregame will air at 8 on Q Country 92.7.  Following the game, the Chiefs will return to their facility in Kansas City for the remainder of the preseason.

Kansas City Chiefs say goodbye to St. Joseph as Training Camp ends

The St. Louis Cardinals had won as many games as they needed to in order to make a win streak, winning two games in a row, but the mini streak was snapped on Tuesday evening at Busch Stadium as the Colorado Rockies shutout the Redbirds 3-0.&nbsp;

Hunter Goodman's two run home run in the fourth inning put Colorado up first, scoring Ezequiel Tovar.&nbsp; The Rockies extended the lead the very next inning, adding the only other run they needed in the victory, Kyle Farmer singling home Brenton Doyle.&nbsp; Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland held the Cardinals to five hits over 7 1/3 innings while striking out two and walking two in the win.&nbsp;

Matthew Liberatore took the loss for St. Louis, falling to 6-10 on the season, pitching four innings and giving up all three runs on four hits and striking out three while walking just one.&nbsp; At the plate, of the Cardinals six hits, Brendan Donovan was 2-for-4.&nbsp; Nolan Gorman was 1-for-2 with a double after coming on as a defensive replacement for Willson Contreras in the sixth inning.&nbsp;

St. Louis and Colorado wrap up their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Michael McGreevy (4-2, 4.40 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals against former Cardinal Austin Gomber (0-6, 6.52 ERA) for the Rockies.&nbsp; First pitch is at 1:15pm with coverage being joined around 1:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).&nbsp;

Cards mini win streak snapped as they get shutout by Rockies

A big day for Vinnie Pasquantino at the plate helped the Kansas City Royals win a second game in a row over the Washington Nationals at Kauffman Stadium, earning an 8-5 win on Tuesday evening.&nbsp;

Pasquantino got the scoring started on the night in the first inning, with his first of five RBI's in the game, driving in Maikel Garcia following his leadoff walk with a sacrifice fly.&nbsp; In the third inning, after another Garcia walk and a single by Bobby Witt Jr, it was Pasquantino again extending the Royals lead with a three run home run into the right field corner, putting Kansas City up 4-0 at the end of three innings.

The Nationals finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning on an RBI triple by Luis Garcia Jr, scoring Riley Adams.&nbsp; Washington added one more run in the sixth inning as Paul DeJong grounded into a forceout, with Josh Bell being thrown out at second and CJ Abrams scoring, cutting the Kansas City lead in half.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the bottom half of the inning though, the Royals added three more runs the first coming with Randal Grichuk hitting an RBI double to bring home Witt Jr, after he led the inning off with a walk, and Grichuk scored in the next at bat as Jonathan India hit his seventh home run of the season, putting Kansas City back up 7-2.&nbsp;

The Nationals scored two runs in the seventh inning, an RBI double by James Wood bringing home Robert Hassell III, and Woods scored in the next at bat on an RBI single by Abrams.&nbsp; The Royals added their final run in the bottom half of the inning, Pasquantino driving in his fifth run with an RBI double scoring Tyler Tolbert, before Washington scored their final run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Daylen Lile driving in DeJong.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michael Wacha earned the win on the mound, improving to 7-9 on the season, pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.&nbsp; Lucas Erceg pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.&nbsp; At the plate, Pasquantino was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and five RBIs.&nbsp; India was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and two RBIs.&nbsp;

Pasquantino drives in five to help Royals beat Nats 8-5

Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp is nearing its end in St. Joseph, but jumping back to the start of camp, there was the big news of the signing of two players. 

The Chiefs extended the contract of George Karlaftis and signed Trey Smith to a new four year deal. 

Assistant General Manager Chris Shea, who was part of getting those deals done, says it was huge to make sure the team got those new contracts completed

"Zooming out to the big picture, one of the of the core operating principals we have that (Brett) Veach has adopted as the General Manager here. goes all the way up to ownership, is that we want to draft well and retain our own players to the maximum extent possible that's feasible within our constraints," Shea tells reporters following practice.  "We were very happy to get both of those guys done as important starters on both offense and defense."

Shea would not speak however on how close the team is to getting a new deal done for cornerback Trent McDuffie, but emphasized again the importance of keeping a player like that on the team. 

During Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp, fans have seen the battle raging along the offensive line. 

Trying to find the best five guys to protect Patrick Mahomes has been a key focus during this camp in St. Joseph, and the most talked about battle on the team. 

Offensive Line Coach Andy Heck says this has probably been one of the best years of competition among guys along the line, and that talent can stem to the guys beyond the starting five

"When you talk about the eighth, ninth, and 10th spot, there's a lot of competition going on and there's still a lot more to be done there in terms of evaluation, those preseason games are going to be huge," Heck explains. "So, whose operating and grading out, basically getting their guy blocked, the most consistently, who do we trust to put in there on a Sunday or Monday night?"

The Chiefs saw a dip in sacks last year, and hope to emphasize getting to the quarterback more this season. 

Defensive line coach Joe Cullen feels they have the guys to do that with what he's seen during Chiefs Training Camp

"When you look at the two years we won the Super Bowl, and Spags (defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo) is creative as it comes in terms of getting to the quarterback, we have guys who can get to the quarterback, and we had like 57 0r 60 two years in a row and we dipped a bit last year, but we picked it up at the end of the regular season and into the playoffs," Cullen says.

Cullen says what they need to do a better job of this year however is not letting the quarterback get out of the pocket, saying his line got to the quarterback plenty last season but couldn't finish, but so far, he's seen a better job of that this season. 

The Chiefs have just one more practice left in St. Joseph, welcoming in the military tomorrow for an 8:15 practice at Missouri Western State University.

Penultimate practice in St. Joseph gives Chiefs one last long day at camp

The St. Louis Cardinals waited until the eighth inning to score the final runs they needed, but pulled off the victory over the Colorado Rockies in their series opener on Monday evening at Busch Stadium, earning a 3-2 win thanks to a pinch hit triple by Brendan Donovan.&nbsp;

The Cardinals did take the lead first however, scoring in the third inning with an RBI single by Alec Burleson driving in Victor Scott II who led the inning off with a walk and also stole second base.&nbsp; St. Louis held that lead all the way until the seventh inning.&nbsp; Back to back singles by Jordan Beck and Mickey Moniak put runners on the corners, before Warming Bernabel grounded out scoring Beck to tie the game, moving Moniak to second.&nbsp; Moniak later scored with two outs on an RBI single from Brenton Doyle.&nbsp;

Trailing 2-1, the Cardinals were retired in order in the bottom half of the seventh inning, in the eighth though, St. Louis came back to take the lead late.&nbsp; Nolan Gorman walked and Thomas Saggese singled putting two runners on with one out.&nbsp; Donovan pinch hit for Pedro Pagés and Garrett Hampson pinch ran for Gorman, a pinch runner not necessary though as Donovan hit a double into right field, driving in both runs to give St. Louis the lead.

Kyle Leahy earned the win in relief, improving to 3-1 on the season, pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up just one hit while striking out two.&nbsp; In a no decision, Miles Mikolas started and pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.&nbsp; At the plate, Burleson was 2-for-4 with an RBI.&nbsp; Saggese was 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Donovan was 1-for-1 with the double and two RBIs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

St. Louis and Colorado continue their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Matthew Liberatore (6-9, 3.98 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals against Kyle Freeland (2-12, 5.53 ERA) for the Rockies.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:45, coverage will begin around 6:35 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).&nbsp;

Donovan's clutch hit pushes Cardinals past Rockies 3-2 in opener

Trailing entering the sixth inning, the Kansas City Royals put up a big four run inning that propelled them to victory over the Washington Nationals in their series opener at Kauffman Stadium, winning 7-4 on Monday evening.&nbsp;

The Royals fell behind in the first inning with two outs as Josh Bell hit a two run home run, scoring James Wood who led the inning off with a walk to give the Nationals the lead.&nbsp; In the second inning though, Kansas City came back to tie up the game, first with three consecutive singles by Maikel Garcia, Salvador Perez, and Adam Frazier, with Frazier's single bringing home Garcia.&nbsp; After a walk to Randal Grichuk loaded the bases, a Nick Loftin sacrifice fly tied the game driving in Perez.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the fifth inning, with Daniel Lynch replacing starter Bailey Falter, Washington took the lead back behind another two run home run, this time by former Royal and St. Louis Cardinal Paul DeJong, again scoring James Wood who led the inning off with a single.&nbsp; Kansas City was retired in order in the bottom half of the inning, but in the sixth stormed back from behind to take the lead, first tying the game on a two run home run from Perez, driving in Garcia who led the inning off with a walk.&nbsp;

Frazier singled following the home run, but Grichuk grounded into a double play putting two outs on the board.&nbsp; With two outs, Loftin singled and scored in the next at bat, Kyle Isbel hitting the second home run of the inning to give the Royals the 6-4 lead. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Kansas City added their final run, a sacrifice fly by&nbsp;Mike Yastrzemski scoring Tyler Tolbert who pinch ran for Frazier.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lynch earned the win, improving to 4-2 on the season, pitching two innings and giving up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.&nbsp; In a no decision, Falter pitched much better in his second Royals start, going four innings and giving up two runs on three hits giving up three walks and striking out five.&nbsp;&nbsp;Carlos Estévez earned his 30th save, giving up just one walk in the ninth inning.&nbsp;

At the plate, Frazier was 3-for-4 with an RBI.&nbsp; Perez was 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBI's, while Isbel was 1-for-3 with a walk and the home run also driving in two runs.&nbsp; Bobby Witt Jr was 2-for-5 in his return to the lineup after missing Sunday's game with a back injury.&nbsp;

Big sixth inning propels Royals to 7-4 victory over Nationals in opener

The Kansas City Chiefs have experienced quite the run of success over the last several years, winning three Super Bowls and making it to five over the last six seasons. 

Former Chief and now broadcaster alongside voice of the Chiefs Mitch Holthus, Danan Hughes says its a run of success that's been exciting to experience, and feels deserved for the fanbase

"I remember that first Super Bowl in Miami where it was emotional, I'm getting goosebumps now, but it was emotional for everybody because you felt like the Kingdom deserved it," Hughes tells reporters.  "And now to be able to see it sustained year after year, and the bar set so high, is really cool."

And going into a new season, Hughes says Chiefs fans are spoiled now, with AFC Championships and Super Bowls, and says this years team expects no different. 

"It doesn't matter, it's the nature of the game where you move guys out or guys move away and you bring guys in, but I think when you talk about the Chiefs, you talk about a culture being set, an identity of an organization, and with Andy (Reid), and Brett (Veach), and Mark Donovan and obviously the Hunt family, that's where the standard is set," Hughes says.  "So for us to say a Super Bowl is the goal, I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility."

Hughes vsisted Chiefs Training Camp in St. Joseph during alumni day, and reflected on how things have changed since his time playing. 

Hughes, who now broadcasts alongside voice of the Chiefs Mitch Holthus, says gone are the two a day practices he endured, but its not fully the practices that he misses

"I don't miss those days as being on the field, but the comradery, and the interactions and you're living with other guys and you're trying to form a team and a brotherhood to obtain a certain goal, that's what all these guys will miss and if you talk to the other ambassadors I'm sure they'll say the same thing," Hughes explains.  "So it's different, from a physicality standpoint, but I think they get the work in to play at a championship level."

Hughes played with the Chiefs from 1993 to 1998, during what he calls the tough times, and says he's elated now to see Chiefs fans experiencing the success that the team is now.

Former Chiefs player turned broadcaster elated by teams recent success

Coming off their first preseason game, the word of the day at Chiefs Training Camp was improvement. 

After falling to the Arizona Cardinals 20-17, head coach Andy Reid said the team had many mistakes to fix and clean up when it came to penalties, having 11 in the game. 

Reid says you address that in practice by detailing your work

"You've got to focus in on the gameplan, know where you're at, and then understand the snap counts and you have to up your attention span there so you get those things covered," Reid tells reporters following practice in St. Joseph.

It was a light practice as the Kansas City Chiefs returned to Missouri Western State University after their preseason opener against the Cardinals. 

Linebacker Nick Bolton says he felt like the defense as a whole did some good things during the preseason opener

"Our tackling was pretty decent, I think our run defense showed up pretty well, got some physicality, and obviously got a turnover," Bolton says.  "So, I feel like some of the things we wanted to do this year we were able to do that, so I think it's a good start, good foundation, but a lot to improve on still."

The Chiefs defense did suffer a blow in the game, losing Deon Bush to an Achilles tendon tear with the safety expected to miss the entire season. 

Kansas City will hope to address the mistakes quickly with their next preseason game coming up on Friday against the Seattle Seahawks.

For the first time in his career not in a quarterback competition, Gardner Minshew suited up for the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday for the first time in preseason action

Minshew rushed for a touchdown and threw for 54 yards before being pulled from the game.  

Minshew says during practices and leading into the season, the biggest challenge for him from Andy Reid has just been to be aggressive

"Take shots, take chances, these practices are times to learn, figure out your limits what you can do," Minshew explains.  "So it's been good, pushing myself, trying to be aggressive, and trying to figure out where i fit in the offense."

Minshew signed with Kansas City on a one year deal in March, replacing Carson Wentz as Patrick Mahomes primary backup, coming to the Chiefs from the Las Vegas Raiders

In a 10-10-10 capacity, in shorts and shells, the Chiefs practiced for just over two hours.  There are just two more practices in St. Joseph, the first tomorrow at 9:15.

Improvement focus of Chiefs Training Camp after first preseason game

In his second start with the Kansas City Royals, Ryan Bergert put another strong performance together, but a late bullpen collapse and defensive miscues gave the Minnesota Twins a walk off 5-3 win to steal the series at Target Field on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

The Royals took the lead in the first inning, Adam Frazier delivering the first of his four hits on the day, an RBI single driving in&nbsp;Mike Yastrzemski after his leadoff walk in the frame.&nbsp; With runners on the corner and two outs, Twins starter&nbsp;José Ureña escaped the danger forcing Jonathan India to ground into a force out, throwing Salvador Perez out at second base.&nbsp;

In the third inning, Bergert made his lone mistake of the game giving up the lead to Minnesota as a former Royals prospect gave the Twins the lead with a two run home run, Ryan Fitzgerald hitting the ball over the right field wall and scoring Mickey Gasper after his leadoff walk for a 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

Following the home run, Bergert retired 10 of the next 12 batters he faced, before being replaced by Angel Zerpa who got the final out in the sixth inning.&nbsp; In the seventh inning, Kansas City got the lead back for Zerpa, Vinnie Pasquantino hitting a two run home run and driving in Maikel Garcia with two outs after Garcia hit a single, giving the Royals a 3-2 lead.&nbsp;

After a scoreless seventh inning from Zerpa, Lucas Erceg came to the mound in the eighth, getting the first out on just one pitch, but in the next at bat Austin Martin hit a fly ball to left field and John Rave attempting to make a sliding catch missed the ball, letting it roll to the warning track and allowing Martin to hit a triple.&nbsp; Erceg go the next out on four pitches, Kody Clemens flying out to Rave, but the hot bat of Ryan Jeffers tied up the game with two outs hitting an RBI single to left field, scoring Martin for the 3-3 tie.&nbsp;

The score held that way and the game headed into extra innings, both teams getting through the 10th scoreless, in the 11th Kansas City brought on closer&nbsp;Carlos Estévez, who walked Clemens and got a double play for two immediate outs, but against rookie&nbsp;Luke Keaschall gave up the walk off home run, Keaschall's second home run of the season.&nbsp;

Estévez fell to 4-4 with the loss.&nbsp; At the plate, Frazier was 4-for-5 with an RBI.&nbsp; Garcia was 3-for-4 with a double, two walks, and a run scored, while Pasquantino was 1-for-5 with the home run and two RBIs.&nbsp;

The Kansas City Chiefs got off to a good start in their first preseason action of the season, scoring quickly with their starting unit on the field, but ended up falling to the Arizona Cardinals in the end 20-17 on Saturday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.&nbsp;

After the Cardinals fumbled the opening kickoff the Chiefs offense took over.&nbsp; Head Coach Andy Reid said going into the week that Patrick Mahomes and the starting unit would play the first quarter, however Mahomes played just a mere 48 seconds, as the Mahomes found Jason Brownlee on a one yard touchdown pass capping a two play drive.&nbsp;

The Chiefs defense stood strong again on Arizona's next offensive drive, Jaden Hicks ending an eight play drive by intercepting Kyler Murray at the Kansas City nine yard line, returning it to the 12 yard line.&nbsp; The Chiefs would end up having to punt with Gardner Minshew now leading the offense, and on the ensuing drive the Cardinals got on the scoreboard on a 33 yard field goal by Chad Ryland.&nbsp;

Kansas City answered by extending the lead with a touchdown, a nine play drive ending with a two yard rushing touchdown by Minshew.&nbsp; But, to end the first half, Arizona scored 14 unanswered points, first capitalizing off an interception of Minshew and getting a 43 yard passing touchdown from Jacoby Brissett to&nbsp;Emari Demercado capping a five play drive, then after forcing a punt scoring again on another passing touchdown Brissett going one yard to Xavier Weaver ending a nine play drive, leaving the Chiefs trailing 17-14 at halftime.&nbsp;

The lone scores in the second half were field goals.&nbsp; In the third quarter the Chiefs tied the game up with a 58 yard field goal by Harrison Butker.&nbsp; The Cardinals took the lead in the fourth quarter on what ended up being the game winning score, a 50 yard field goal by Ryland.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mahomes was 1-of-1 passing for one yard and a touchdown on the day.&nbsp; Minshew was 6-of-8 through the air for 54 yards with three rushes for four yards and a touchdown.&nbsp; Robert Tonyan led the receivers on the day with three catches for 49 yards while Nikko Remigio had two catches for 24 yards.&nbsp; On the ground, Carson Steele had three carries for 15 yards while Elijah Mitchell had three carries for 10 yards and Brashard Smith had four carries for 10 yards.&nbsp;

Next in the preseason, Kansas City travels to the Seattle Seahawks.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 9pm, pregame will air at 8 on Q Country 92.7 (92.7 FM).&nbsp; The Chiefs still have three more practices in St. Joseph for Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri Western State University, starting on Monday at 10:15.&nbsp;

The Cubs took the lead in the first inning, scoring two runs.&nbsp; Kyle Tucker's RBI single drove in Michael Busch after he led the inning off with a double, and after stealing second base Tucker later scored on an RBI single by former Cardinal Carson Kelly.&nbsp; Chicago extended the lead in the second inning with four more runs Busch hitting a three run home run, his 22nd of the season scoring Dansby Swanson and Matt Shaw, with the final run coming on another RBI single from Kelly, this time driving in Seiya Suzuki after his 26th double of the season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

With the 6-0 lead, the Cubs scored another run in the third inning on an RBI triple by Shaw, driving in Swanson, one run in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Ian Happ scoring Tucker, and a final run in the fifth inning coming on a solo home run by Shaw, his eighth of the season, putting Chicago up 9-0 by the end of five innings.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Cardinals scored their lone run in the sixth inning as Lars Nootbaar led the inning off with a double and came around to score on a ground out by Alec Burleson.&nbsp; St. Louis had seven hits on the day, with seven different batters getting one hit each.&nbsp;

Andre Pallante took the loss, falling to 6-9 on the season, pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up six runs on seven hits while walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Nolan Gorman was 1-for-2 with two walks.&nbsp; Burleson was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cards can't overcome early scoring barrage by Cubs in 9-1 loss

Another game, another strong start by St. Joseph's Noah Cameron and the Kansas City Royals backed up the rookie pitcher's performance on the mound to even up their series with the Minnesota Twins, winning 2-0 at Target Field on Saturday evening.&nbsp;

The Royals got the one run they needed for Cameron in the third inning, with two outs, as Kyle Isbel singled and then scored on a double by Maikel Garcia.&nbsp; Bobby Witt Jr grounded out to end the inning, leaving Kansas City up 1-0 at the end of the inning, as Cameron went on in the bottom half to get an inning ending double play after surrendering two singles to start the frame.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cameron pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and striking out four while walking two before being replaced by Angel Zerpa for the final out of the sixth inning.&nbsp; Hunter Harvey gave up two hits in the seventh, but escaped the inning unharmed, before handing the ball to Lucas Erceg for a scoreless, hitless eighth inning.&nbsp;

In the ninth inning, the Royals added one more run of insurance with a Jonathan India RBI single scoring pinch hitter Adam Frazier.&nbsp; Bringing no more runs across in the top half,&nbsp;Carlos Estévez was brought on in the bottom half of the inning and retired Minnesota 1-2-3, with two strikeouts, earning his 29th save in the shutout victory.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It was the sixth win of the season for Cameron as he moved above .500 on the season, improving to 6-5 on the mound.&nbsp; At the plate, Garcia was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.&nbsp; Isbel was also 2-for-4 on the day with a run scored.&nbsp;

Another strong start by Cameron helps Royals even up series with Twins

Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri Western State University has shown fans a number of explosive downfield plays from the Kansas City Chiefs offense 

Patrick Mahomes says it's not just because it's training camp you're seeing those types of plays either 

"We've got the guys that can make the contested catches, I think y'all have seen that out here, and we've told them we're going to give them a chance and they've got to prove to us that they can make those plays and they're proving that," Mahomes tells reporters after practice.  "Coach Reid has been adamant about pushing the ball, trying to make plays happen, and we’ve been having success with it and the goal is to keep that going throughout the regular season." 

Saturday will mark the first NFL action for several rookies and first year players on this squad 

Mahomes, who was once in those shoes, says they just need to go out there and do what they've done all training camp 

"Obviously it's going to be a bigger stage, you're going up against another team, but I think Coach Reid prepares us better than anybody else in the league to go out there and play your best football and that's because we practice hard, we practice fast, so when you get to the game it's not that huge step up, it's a step up for sure, but it's not that huge step up," Mahomes explains.  "So go out there like you practice, have the right mindset, and just play fast and let the rest handle itself." 

Head Coach Andy Reid says for the first game, the rotation will be typical, with Patrick Mahomes in the first quarter, Gardner Minshew in the second, and so on.  

Working with nearly an entirely new offensive line, Reid is prepared to play his number one unit for more drives than usual, but says 

We’ll see how it goes. I’ll play that by ear, but you know probably not more than a quarter," Reid says 

The Chiefs and Cardinals kickoff on Saturday at 7pm, pregame will air at 6 on Q Country 92.7 

Kansas City has just three more practices in St. Joseph remaining, returning to MoWest on Monday with practice at 10:15.

Nearing end of time in St. Joseph, Chiefs ready for first preseason game Saturday

The St. Louis Cardinals scored four unanswered runs on way to a late rally, stealing a series win from the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodgers Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, winning 5-3 on a day where Shohei Ohtani threw his longest outing of the season since returning to the mound.&nbsp;

Things didn't start off great for the Cardinals as Ohtani retired the first six batters in order, but in the third inning St. Louis opened the scoring first as Jordan Walker opened the inning with a single, stole second base, and then scored on an RBI single by Brendan Donovan.&nbsp; The Dodgers though in the bottom half of the inning took the lead as Ohtani backed himself up, blasting a two run home run to center field, his 39th of the season bringing home Alex Call after his leadoff double, giving Los Angeles a 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dodgers extended their lead as Andy Pages singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, and stole third base.&nbsp; But on the steal of third base, a throwing error by catcher&nbsp;Pedro Pagés allowed Pages to come home to score.&nbsp; Trailing 3-1, the Cardinals were able to cut the lead to one in the sixth inning finally, Lars Nootbaar grounding out and driving in&nbsp;Iván Herrera after his leadoff walk.&nbsp;&nbsp;

St. Louis did finally take the lead in the eighth inning behind a two run frame. Alec Burleson led off the inning with a single, then with one out Masyn Winn got on base as well with a single.&nbsp; Yohel Pozo pinch hit, but flew out for the second out, but with two outs Jordan Walker came through delivering an RBI single, scoring Burleson to tie the game, but on a throwing error by third baseman Alex Freeland as Walker advanced to second, Winn ran home to put the Cardinals up 4-3.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lars Nootbaar extended the lead giving the Cardinals the lone run of insurance they needed in the ninth inning, adding the final run, an RBI double driving in Donovan after his leadoff single.&nbsp;&nbsp;Riley O'Brien earned his first save, only walking Max Muncy late in the ninth to secure the Cardinals series win.&nbsp;

JoJo Romero earned the win in relief, improving to 4-3 on the season, pitching one inning and giving up one hit and striking out one.&nbsp; At the plate, Walker was 3-for-5 with a stolen base and one RBI.&nbsp; Winn was 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored.&nbsp;

St. Louis is off on Thursday and will return to Busch Stadium on Friday to host Chicago.&nbsp; Michael McGreevy (3-2, 5.08 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals against Matthew Boyd (11-4, 2.34 ERA) for the Cubs.&nbsp; First pitch is at 7:15pm, coverage will begin around 7:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).&nbsp;

Cardinals rally late to steal series from Dodgers with 5-3 win

The Kansas City Royals lost just their second series since the All Star break against the Boston Red Sox, but they avoided being swept for the first time since the end of June, beating the Red Sox 7-3 on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.&nbsp;

Boston took the lead first though off Royals starter Michael Wacha in the first inning.&nbsp; With two runners on, Romy Gonzalez doubled to drive in Alex Bregman and Jarren Duran.&nbsp; Kansas City cut the lead to one in the third inning,&nbsp;Mike Yastrzemski leading off the inning with a ground rule double and scoring in the very next at bat as Bobby Witt Jr hit an RBI single.&nbsp;

In the fourth inning, the Royals went on to take the lead scoring two runs.&nbsp; Adam Frazier led off the inning getting hit by a pitch, but was caught attempting to steal second.&nbsp; Back to back singles by Jonathan India and John Rave put runner back on however, India moving to third on Rave's single and Rave advancing to second as the right fielder threw to third base.&nbsp; Kyle Isbel gave Kansas City the lead driving in both India and Rave with a two RBI single into center field.&nbsp;&nbsp;

With one out in the seventh inning, the Royals extended their lead as India conquered the Green Monster with a three run home run.&nbsp; After a groundout opened the inning, Salvador Perez and Frazier singled before India sent the ball sailing into left field and onto the monster for his sixth home run of the season, putting Kansas City up 6-2.&nbsp;

The Royals added one more run, and their final run in the eighth inning, Vinnie Pasquantino hitting an RBI single and scoring Tyler Tolbert who pinch ran for Randal Grichuk after Grichuk was hit by a pitch to open the inning, with Tolbert stealing second and third base along the way before scoring.&nbsp; In the bottom half, the Red Sox scored their final run, also with an RBI single, Trevor Story driving in Connor Wong off Royals reliever Lucas Erceg.&nbsp;
