Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has undergone shoulder surgery after battling injuries throughout his second season with the team.

 Worthy tore his labrum in the opening game of the season against the Los Angeles Chargers and also dealt with an ankle injury.&nbsp;Worthy was dealing with a shoulder injury as late as Week 8 of the 2025 season and then a week 13 injury report indicated issues with his ankle.&nbsp; Despite the injuries Worthy was never placed on injured reserve and finished out the season.&nbsp; 

Worthy finished the season with 42 catches, 532 yards, and one touchdown, missing three games due to injury.&nbsp; In a social media post, he expressed his determination for the next season on social media after saying the surgery performed on his shoulder was successful.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy has surgery after injury riddled season

It's difficult to make an NFL roster off a rookie minicamp invite or as an undrafted free agent, but expectations were high for Carson Steele with the Kansas City Chiefs.

&nbsp;Steele played in all 17 games for the Chiefs in the 2024 season, rushing for 183 yards and 26 receiving yards during the season, quickly becoming a fan favorite due to his tough running style, along with his pet alligator, Crocky-J, who also became a fan favorite among Chiefs Kingdom.&nbsp; But after a promising 2024, things changed this past season for Steele.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The former Ball State running back, who was working to transition to a fullback role with the Chiefs, spent all of 2025 as a member of the Chiefs practice squad, buried on the depth chart behind Kareem Hunt and rookie Brashard Smith, along with Elijah Mitchell out of training camp, and later a signed Dameon Pierce.

Now, Steele will look to find a place on a new team, after signing a futures contract the the Philadelphia Eagles.&nbsp; If he can learn the fullback role with the Eagles, he could be in a good position, Philadelphia has utilized the fullback position more as of late, having big plans for Ben VanSumeren in 2025, but he tore his ACL on the first play of Week one, and has been out ever since. 

Bringing in Steele to compete at fullback would be the best move for the Eagles, especially considering the running back room in Philadelphia will return all three players from this season with Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley.

Gov. Mike Kehoe has detailed a comprehensive plan to surge law enforcement and emergency resources to Kansas City this summer, aiming to secure the region as it prepares to host several FIFA World Cup matches.

In his latest budget recommendation, Kehoe requested an additional $63.2 million to support the international event. The majority of these funds are expected to come from federal sources, pushing the state’s total investment in the World Cup past the $150 million mark.

The proposal includes a significant deployment of the Missouri National Guard to assist local agencies. Funding is also earmarked for the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency to provide a mix of security, traffic control, and medical services at matches and official fan events.

Kehoe framed the security surge as a necessity for the state's reputation, noting that the global spotlight offers a unique opportunity to showcase Missouri. He emphasized during his budget presentation that the state must ensure the safety of visitors and residents to successfully present Kansas City to the world.

The heightened security measures come as Kansas City prepares for an influx of hundreds of thousands of international visitors. MO Governor details multi-million dollar security surge for World Cup

The St. Louis Cardinals entered this offseason aiming to make their roster younger, going into a rebuild under new&nbsp;president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom.&nbsp;&nbsp;

First trading Sonny Gray, then Willson Contreras, the Cardinals have now moved on from 10 time Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado, trading the third baseman to the Arizona Diamondbacks today, in return receiving Arizona's eighth round pick in last year's draft right handed pitcher Jack Martinez.&nbsp; Arenado did have a no-trade clause which he waived for the D-backs.

The 34 year old&nbsp;Arenado is among the game’s most decorated active players with eight All-Star appointments, six Platinum Glove awards, five Silver Sluggers and three NL home run titles to go along with his 10 Gold Gloves, though his recent production has not lived up to that.&nbsp; This past season, injuries limited his playing time following an offseason filled with trade rumors, using that no trade clause to block a trade to the Houston Astros, going on to hit just 12 home runs with a .666 OPS in 107 games for St. Louis.

Arenado finished third in the voting for the National League’s MVP Award in 2022, when he slashed .293/.358/.533 with 30 home runs and 103 RBIs and won his 10th straight Gold Glove.&nbsp; His numbers have dipped significantly since.&nbsp; He hit just 26 home runs in 2023, and then 16 in 2024, before the injury riddled 2025 signaled the end of his time with the Cardinals.

Arenado is still owed $42 million over the next two seasons, $27 million in 2026 and $15 million in 2027, per SpoTrac.com. The final year of the contract was added on when he agreed to the trade from the Rockies to the Cardinals before the 2021 season. The Rockies are contractually obligated to pay $5 million of Arenado’s 2027 salary.

Cardinals rebuild continues trading Arenado to D-Backs

The Kansas City Royals are making a change, announcing today a shift to the outfield walls, and Kauffman Stadium will look slightly different when Opening Day of the 2026 season hits.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The left and right field walls will be moved in nine to 10 feet, starting close to the foul poles and then tapering toward center field, where 410 feet will remain the distance from home plate. The wall height is going from 10 feet to 8 1/2 feet in most places. There will be more seats available, about 150 in left field and about 80 new drink-rail seats in right.

According to a team-provided diagram, the left- and right-field corners are being pulled in nine feet, from 356 and 353 feet, respectively, to 347 and 344 feet. The previous distances of 373 in both left and right fields will be nine feet closer, at 364 feet. Left-center and right-center fields will be moved in 10 feet, from 389 feet to 379 feet.

“We’ve discussed this possibility for years, and after much work by our Research &amp; Development department, believe this will be a positive change for our baseball team,” Royals Executive Vice President and General Manager J.J. Picollo said in a news release from the team. “We wanted more consistency throughout the season, while making sure the specifics put us in the best position to succeed.”

According to the Royals, these changes will likely create more home runs, along with robbed home runs, more extra-base hits, and more exciting action on the field, also bringing fans closer to seeing it. The decision was made by Baseball Operations for competitive reasons, including to bring "The K" more in line with other Major League ballparks.

Per research from the club, the changes will take the run value of fly balls at Kauffman move from the bottom third of MLB ballparks to the middle, primarily through more extra-base hits.&nbsp; Over the last three seasons, these specific changes would have benefitted the Royals overall, even accounting for more extra-base hits by opponents.

“Making this a fairer ballpark will help with roster construction, but more importantly will allow our players to keep the same approach regardless of where we play,” Royals Vice President of Research &amp; Development/Assistant GM Dr. Daniel Mack said. “Our approach was carefully considered to account for as many factors as possible. We believe this will ultimately reduce the constraints within Kauffman Stadium.”

Changes coming to Kauffman Stadium outfield in upcoming season

The Baltimore Ravens have interviewed Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator and former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy for their vacant head coaching position. 

Nagy, earned the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2018, his first season in Chicago leading the Bears to a 12-4 record and the NFC North division title, before losing in the NFC Wildcard to the Philadelphia Eagles.&nbsp; Following that season however,&nbsp; Nagy went 22-27 over the next three before being dismissed prior to the 2022 season, returning to the Chiefs in 2022 as the quarterbacks coach before taking over as offensive coordinator in 2023.

Nagy is considered a strong candidate for the Ravens head coaching job after Baltimore fired longtime coach&nbsp;John Harbaugh.&nbsp; The Ravens have also acknowledged&nbsp;interviewing Vance Joseph, Davis Webb, Klint Kubiak, and Kevin Stefanski for the job as well.

In the latest episode of the Chiefs' YouTube series, "The Franchise," the story told focused on the team's future plans, including moving into a new stadium in Kansas City, Kansas in Wyandotte County. Despite some fans feeling sorrow over leaving Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs presented the move as a positive development for fans. 

Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt expressed his appreciation for Arrowhead Stadium and emphasized that the team will cherish every season there before the move and will celebrate Arrowhead Stadium for its special memories. 

The episode mostly glossed over the team's final three losses and highlighted the excitement surrounding the upcoming transition to a new stadium.

It's the second consecutive year that Humphrey has received the honor, solidifying the fifth year pro as one of the best offensive lineman in the league and the best overall center.. Despite the Chiefs' struggles on offense, Humphrey made all 17 starts in the season, allowing just one sack and committing just two penalties in nearly 1,100 snaps.

The Kansas City Current have extended goalkeeper Clare Gagne's contract for one year, keeping her with the team through the 2026 season. 

Gagne, a young talent who joined the team from the collegiate ranks from the University of North Carolina where in 2024 she won a national championship, has shown dedication and resilience in her recovery from a head injury. 

Despite not playing in the NWSL during her rookie season, Gagne provided depth for the team's goalkeeping unit, which achieved impressive records in the 2025 season.&nbsp; Gagne expressed excitement about continuing to grow and compete in Kansas City, highlighting the supportive environment and talented teammates.

“I’m incredibly excited to be staying in Kansas City for another year,” said Gagne in a news release from the team. “This is a special environment to grow in, and I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to train and compete alongside such talented players and the most wonderful people. Negotiations are no longer happening between the Kansas City Royals and Clay County for a new stadium as the Royals pursue a move out of Jackson County at the end of their lease at Kauffman Stadium.

Clay County Commissioner Jason Withington announced that he is no longer negotiating with the Royals for a new stadium in the county, saying in a social media post that the "sense of joy has been drained&nbsp; out of him" over a lack of progress, also expressing frustration with the business of baseball and called negotiations with the team a closed chapter.

 Withington stated that the county will now focus on other priorities, such as upgrading the existing county jail or building a new one. 

The Royals' lease at Kauffman Stadium in Jackson County expires in January 2031, and while the Chiefs have announced plans to move to a new stadium site in Wyandotte County on the Kansas siide in 2031, the Royals have not revealed their next steps for a new ballpark. 

There has been word on a potential stadium site in Overland Park that has emerged, but some residents are not in favor of the idea.

The Kansas City Chiefs are aware of&nbsp; allegations of domestic violence against wide receiver Rashee Rice made by his ex-girlfriend on social media. 

"The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We have no further comment at this time."

The team is aware of the accusations and is in communication with the NFL office.&nbsp; Rice, who recently completed his third season in the NFL,&nbsp; also has not addressed the allegations publicly after&nbsp;Dacoda Nichole Jones, Rice's ex-girlfriend&nbsp; posted on her Instagram account Wednesday afternoon photos that show bruises and wounds on multiple parts of her body, alleging abuse for numerous years. 

Jones does not name Rice or anyone else in the post, but she says that the person who abused her is the father of her children. Rice has two children with Jones.&nbsp; The Chiefs also did not specify that the allegations involve Rice.&nbsp;&nbsp;As of Wednesday night, Jones has yet to file a police report of domestic violence in Overland Park, Kansas, or in Dallas, the two places mentioned in her post where she says abuse occurred.

Rice previously served a six suspension for his involvement in a fatal car crash in 2024 and received a five year probation and 30 days jail time as part of the legal consequences. Despite these off-field issues, Rice has been a key contributor to the Chiefs' offense, particularly in his rookie season when he helped the team win a Super Bowl.

Chiefs aware of abuse allegations against Rashee Rice

The Missouri Western State University women picked up their MIAA conference win with a 75-67 victory over Washburn at the Looney Complex.

The Griffons, who have now won eight of their last nine games against Washburn since 2022, got down 28-23 late in the first quarter, but responded with a strong defensive effort in the second quarter, MoWest outscoring Washburn 18-10 in the frame and holding the Ichabods to just 2-of-10 shooting, taking a 44-38 lead by the halftime braeak.

The second half was all MoWest as the women never falterd, leading by as many as 15 points with&nbsp; 6:02 remaining in the third quarter. Washburn did get the deficit to within nine points twice after that, but never got closer.&nbsp; The Ichabods were just 10-of-35 from the field over the last three quarters combined, and just 1-of-8 from three-point range in that time as well.

It was also a defensive showcase as the Griffons forced 26 turnovers, scoring 21 points off of them, with MoWest recording a season best 17 steals in the matchup. Washburn was limited to 20-of-54 shooting, going just 5-of-15 from beyond the arc.

Ana Oliveira Dias and Nakiya Harris led MoWest with 16 points each. Dias also recording eight steals and eight assists.&nbsp; Mia Morel chipped in 12 points, while Lindsey Kelderman and LaNicia Parker each had 10 points in the effort to round out the double digit scoring.

The MoWest men meanwhile fell to the nation's top-ranked team in the undefeated Ichabods 87-75 at the Looney Complex.

Washburn came out firing in the opening half, shooting 65.5% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range, pouring in 48 points before the break as the Griffons had difficulty establishing an offensive flow, managing just 25.0% shooting through the first 20 minutes, and the Ichabods took a 48–29 advantage into the halftime break.

The second was a different story for MoWest however, as the Griffons found a better rhythm offensively, trimming the deficit to 53–39 with 15:54 remaining, but Washburn's advantage proved too large to overcome despite the Griffons outscoring the Ichabods 46–39 after the break.&nbsp; MoWest finished the game shooting 38.7% from the field and the Griffons connected on 21.4% from beyond the arc.

Noah King led the Griffons with 14 points. Bode Goodman and Devin Butler each followed with 12 points, while&nbsp;William Kiburis chipped in 11 points to round out the double digit efforts.

MoWest continues their four game homestand on Saturday, hosting Central Missouri.&nbsp; The women tipoff at 1:30, while the men tipoff at 3:30pm following.&nbsp; It will also be&nbsp; Griffon Basketball Alumni Night, with several former Griffons in attendance.

MoWest women earn first conference win, men fall short against Washburn

The Northwest Missouri State women haven't had the start to the new year they had hoped for after another loss yesterday evening.

The Bearcat women saw their losing streak move to three games as the University of Central Missouri Jennies closed the game on a 12-0 run to score a 66-61 victory over the Northwest in Bearcat Arena.

Even in a loss it was a bounce back from a poor performance Saturday against Nebraska Kearney, where the Bearcats shot 36% and were outrebounded 41-32.

Sophomore forward Sadie Maas says it's important to not let things snowball

"This isn't the same team as last year, and we're so much more capable when it comes to just bouncing back when we get hit," Maas tells reporters following the game.  "So I think just sticking together as a team and having everybody on the same page and just continuing to do that is going to be really key."

Head Coach Austin Meyer says with more tough MIAA opponents ahead, the team needs to take lessons from this game knowing another good team is around the corner

"There were some things we did, gave them some open threes that we didn't need to, and there's plenty of little things that despite everything else we still could have won the game," Meyer says.

The Bearcats have a tough slate ahead as they face Washburn on Saturday, before hosting and facing for the second time in two weeks Nebraska Kearney and #6 Fort Hays State.

The Jennies snapped Northwest's nine-game home-court winning streak and moved to 10-4 overall, 4-1 in MIAA play, while Northwest now sits at 9-6 overall, 2-3 in the MIAA.&nbsp; 

The Bearcats began the game focused on dominating the paint, scoring 16 points inside while securing a strong rebounding presence with 13 total boards. Andrea Lopreato was active early, contributing a tip-in and a key layup at 5:59, which briefly tied the game at six. However, UCM responded with effective perimeter shooting, highlighted by Neely Schaaf's three point shot late in the quarter, extending their lead.&nbsp; Brooklyn Stanley's hit a layup with 47 seconds left, but the Northwest trailed 21-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The Bearcats seized control in the second quarter, outscoring the Jennies 21-14. Bailey Birmingham and Lopreato were big in the rally with Birmingham assisting on key plays, including a three-pointer at 8:31 that tied the score. As the quarter rolled on, Northwest built momentum, Ella Moody's late three-pointer again leveling the game, and the Bearcats maintained an edge, closing the half leading 37-35 after a layup by Moody with 37 seconds left in the half.

A strong presence in the paint opened the third quarter for Northwest, a Lopreato layup extending their lead. Despite a brief push from UCM, the Bearcats responded with a defensive stand and a quick layup by Boston Wand to keep their momentum. Birmingham's fast-break three pointer extended the lead further, but the Jennies managed to tie the game at 52 with a late three pointer by Neely Schaaf near the end of the quarter, ending the frame tied 52-52, setting up a decisive final quarter.

The Bearcats began the fourth quarter with a strong start, Birmingham hitting a three pointer to take the lead back.&nbsp; Kirsten Hauck later added a layup to push the lead further and Sadie Maas contributed significantly as well with a layup at 6:25 following a defensive rebound, and a jumper at 5:32, extending Northwest Mo. St.'s lead to 61-54.&nbsp; UCM however, would not go away.

The Jennies mounted a comeback, tying the game at 61-61 with free throws by Reese Schaaf late in the quarter, then in the final moments, UCM edged ahead with a layup by Schaaf and extended their lead with free throws in the last seconds. Despite several offensive rebounds, the Bearcats were unable to reclaim the lead.

Moody scored 13 points to lead the team. Lopreato added 12 points to round out the double digit scoring, while Birmingham converted three beyond the arc for nine points.

The Northwest men were also narrowly beaten by Central Missouri in Bearcat Arena falling 76-72.

The Mules improved to 13-4 overall, 4-1 in MIAA play, while the Bearcats moved to 9-7 overall, 2-3 in the MIAA. The Bearcat bench did enjoy a good day against UCM with a 22-2 scoring advantage, but despite a balanced offense, with four players scoring in double digits, Northwest could not hold off the Mules, who outscored them by 14 points in the second half.

&nbsp;Royce Williams securing an early lead for Northwest not even a minute into the game with a three pointer, and the Bearcats maintained a narrow edge with some effective scoring in the paint, particularly with Larenz Walters contributing a layup and a free throw to help extend the advantage to four points.&nbsp; UCM kept the contest tight though, matching Northwest in both field goals and three-pointers, causing multiple lead changes and ties through the half, but a layup from Mikhail Abdul-Hamid with 27 seconds remaining, gave the Bearcats a 35–31 lead at halftime.

Northwest initially extended its lead with an early three-pointer from Williams out of the halftime break pushing the score to 40–33, but the Mules responded with a series of successful offensive plays to level the game at 43. The Bearcats did briefly recapture the lead with a three-pointer from Presley Ibeh, but UCM quickly tied the game again.&nbsp; As the half progressed, the Bearcats struggled to maintain a lead. 

A significant moment came on a Trey Moala layup at 8:54 after a critical steal by Aiden Gair, giving Northwest a narrow 58–57 advantage. However, UCM capitalized on a late turnover and foul, securing the win with a final free throw at 10 seconds.

Williams led the team with 18 points. Moala contributed 11 points and Abdul-Hamid chipped in 12 points. Walters scored 10 points to round out the double digit scoring.

Northwest will remain home on Saturday, playing host to Washburn.&nbsp; The women will tipoff at 1:30.&nbsp; The men will follow against the #1 Ichabods at 3:30 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.

Northwest women, men narrowly fall to UCM to open four game homestand

The Kansas City Royals have signed utility player Josh Rojas to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. 

Rojas, a seven-year MLB veteran, struggled with the White Sox last season, batting .180 with two home runs in 69 games, but has shown potential in the past.&nbsp; Originally drafted by the Houston Astros, Rojas was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019, and had his best season in 2022 with the Diamondbacks, hitting .269 with nine home runs.

The left-handed hitter has experience playing multiple positions and could provide depth for the Royals, likely to be used mostly though at second base. Rojas, a seven-year MLB veteran, struggled with the White Sox last season, batting .180 with two home runs in 69 games, but has shown potential in the past.&nbsp; Originally drafted by the Houston Astros, Rojas was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019, and had his best season in 2022 with the Diamondbacks, hitting .269 with nine home runs.The left-handed hitter has experience playing multiple positions and could provide depth for the Royals, likely to be used mostly though at second base. Royals sign utilty player Josh Rojas to minor league contract

The Kansas City Current have named their new man in charge as&nbsp;Vlatko Andonovski transitions from being the teams head coach to the role of sporting director.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In a big announcement, the Current are hiring Chris Armas, a National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee and decorated Major League Soccer player, as the newest head coach of the women’s soccer club.&nbsp; &nbsp;Armas was most recently the head coach of the Colorado Rapids.

Armas began his coaching career in 2008 in Chicago, as an assistant with the Fire, before spending four years as the head women’s soccer coach at Adelphi University, his alma mater, from 2011 to 2014.&nbsp; He returned to the MLS in 2015 as an assistant with the New York Red Bulls, holding that role until 2018, when he moved into the head coaching job, until 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 2019, under Armas, the Red Bulls finished sixth in the Eastern Conference and were eliminated by the Philadelphia Union in the first round of the playoffs. The Red Bulls were then eliminated in the group stage of the MLS is Back Tournament after they were defeated by FC Cincinnati. Armas parted ways with the club on September 4, 2020, one day after a 1–0 loss to D.C. United.

In 2021, Armas was hired as the head coach of Toronto FC, but was fired midway through the season following the largest loss in the club's history and a league record of one win, eight losses and two draws.&nbsp; He went on to serve as an assistant overseas with Manchester United the the remainder of the year and into 2022, and then with Leeds United in 2023.&nbsp; He was also named the Co-interim coach of Leed United that year, helping&nbsp; oversee a 2–2 draw at Old Trafford with Manchester United.&nbsp;

Armas has since been with the Rapids back in the MLS during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.&nbsp; As the man in charge in Colorado, Armas helped lead&nbsp; the Rapids to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in 2024, and earned the team a third-place finish in the 2025 Leagues Cup, as well as back-to-back Rocky Mountain Cup titles.

Armas also has success as a player, regarded as one of the best midfielders in Major League Soccer according to the Current.&nbsp; Armas&nbsp;is one of only five players in MLS history to have been named to the MLS Best XI five times and be a six-time MLS All-Star. Additionally, in 2003, Armas was named the MLS Comeback Player of the Year after recovering from an injury that ended his season in 2002. In that same year, he was named Chicago Fire FC’s MVP.

As the Missouri legislative session begins today at noon, a Republican senator has introduced bills aimed at the Kansas City Chiefs and their impending move to Kansas.

Senator Nick Schroer has introduced three bills targeting the Chiefs after the team announced plans to build a new stadium in Kansas, as well as a new practice facility and a new team headquarters based in Olathe.&nbsp; If lawmakers feel snubbed, after approving a package during a special session in June, the three bills could make it to the floor during the session.

One bill would impose a $50 surcharge on each ticket sold for events hosted by the Chiefs and a 5 % surcharge on sales made within the sports facility during those events.&nbsp; Another would make any lessee of a public facility with a capacity of 60,000 or more liable for the reasonable costs of demolishing the existing facility if it is not left in a condition that is usable for another purpose when the lease ends.

The final bill being introduced from Schroer would deny any professional sports team playing in a facility with a capacity of at least 75,000 people the ability to receive tax credits.&nbsp; It is not known if all three bills will be heard, or debated, during the legislative session.

Despite efforts to keep the team in Missouri, the Chiefs confirmed their move to Kansas City, Kansas for a $3 billion state-of-the-art facility by 2031.&nbsp; The proposed legislation could impact the Chiefs' plans for a new stadium and mixed-use entertainment district.

Missouri lawmaker takes aim at Chiefs move to Kansas with new bills

Kansas City Royals General Manager JJ Picollo has confirmed that some team members in Venezuela are safe following the recent U.S. raid in Caracas.

 Picollo has been in contact with the players, including Salvador Perez and Maikel Garcia&nbsp; and their families, ensuring their well-being. The Royals are also checking on the status many of their Minor League players in Venezuela during the offseason.&nbsp;

The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League suspended its playoffs after the raid, which led to the capture of President Maduro and his wifem but is set to resume play on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Former Chicago Fire coach Raphael Wicky has been hired as the new coach of Sporting Kansas City. 

Wicky signed a two and a half year contract that will run through the 2027-28 season. He takes over from Peter Vermes, who left the team in March, after on 0-5-1 start to the season and was then replaced by Kerry Zavagnin, who served as interim coach, and helped lead the team to a 7-20-7 finish, the worst finish in the history of the franchise. 

Wicky, a former Swiss international player who played in 75 international games for Switzerland, has previous coaching experience with Basel, the U.S. Under-17 team, and Young Boys in Switzerland.&nbsp; During his tenure with the BSC Young Boys from 2022-24, he led the team to the 2022-23 Super League and Cup double.

During his time with the US Under 17 national team, Wicky guided the team&nbsp;to a second-place finish at the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship. Wicky was also in charge of the team’s 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup run, where the club says he coached Sporting KC Academy’s Gianluca Busio.

Wicky becomes the fifth permanent coach in Sporting KC history.&nbsp; The 2026 season begins on February 21st on the road in San Jose.&nbsp; Sporting's first home game will be February 28th against Columbus.&nbsp; The&nbsp;MLS now operates under a summer-through-spring calendar.

Matt Zollers is a potential starter, after starting four games in place of the injured Pribula this past season, but competition is expected from the likes Sam Horn, who may join the Los Angeles Dodgers after recovering from injury and now a new transfer from a familiar SEC foe. 

Former Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons has transferred to Missouri as a graduate with two years of eligibility, bringing arm talent and big-play ability but limited experience. Simmons'&nbsp; was set to be the Rebels starting quarterback this season, but after suffering an ankle injury lost the job to Trinidad Chambliss who is currently leading Ole Miss through the College Football Playoff.&nbsp; Prior to losing his job, Simmons' threw for 744 yards, four touchdowns, but also threw five interceptions, making him a promising yet unproven addition to the team.

Missouri adds familiar foe to starting quarterback competition in '26

North Central Missouri College announced the 2026 inductees for the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame who will be enshrined into Pirates history later this month.&nbsp;

NCMC announces Hall of Fame Class for 2026 to be inducted later this month

The Kansas City Chiefs closed out the regular season in a shootout, falling to the Las Vegas Raiders 14-12 in what potentially could have been the final game of tight end Travis Kelce's career.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the loss, Kelce did hit another milestone in his illustrious and more than likely future Hall of Fame career, eclipsing 13,000 receiving yards, becoming the fastest to reach the mark and just the third tight end ever to achieve the milestone, joining former Chief Tony Gonzalez and legendary Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.

The game itself consisted of field goals, and a safety for both teams, with&nbsp;Daniel Carlson, a pending free agent, knocking through a game winning kick that might have earned himself a contract either with the Raiders or another NFL team.

Carlson made a career-long 60-yard field goal with eight seconds left to give Las Vegas the victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and end the Raiders’ 10-game losing streak. His previous long was 57 yards. Carlson and Harrison Butker each made four field goals, with Butker hitting a 41-yarder with 1:01 left to give the Chiefs a short-lived 12-11 lead.

Butker's 36 yard field goal in the opening quarter gave the Chiefs an initial lead, before Carlson hit field goals of 32 and 23 yards before halftime to give the Raiders a 6-3 lead at the break.&nbsp; Butker tied the game in the third quarter with 40 yard field goal, but in the fourth Carlson gave Las Vegas the lead again on a 55 yard field goal, a lead that was eventually extended as Shane Buechele was sacked in the endzone by Tyree Wilson for a safety.&nbsp; Butker knocked through a 47 yard field goal to cut the lead to two, before hitting the go ahead field goal later in the fourth.

Chris Oladokun started for the Chiefs and completed 11 of 17 passes for 58 yards before giving way to Buechele in the second half who was 7 of 14 for 88 yards.&nbsp; Brashard Smith carried the ball 12 times for 56 yards, while Hollywood Brown was the leading receiver with three cathches for 64 yards.&nbsp; Noah Gray had three catches as well for 30 yards, while Kareem Hunt had three catches for 21 yards, and Kelce had three catches for 12 yards.&nbsp; Chris Jones recorded two sacks to give him 86 1/2 for third most in Chiefs history.

The Chiefs finish the season 6-11, their first losing season since 2012.&nbsp; With the season wrapped up attention will turn to the NFL Draft being held in Pittsburgh at the end of April, where Kansas City will pick ninth, their highest pick since 2017, when they traded up to pick 10 and took Patrick Mahomes.

Chiefs fall to Raiders in potential final game of Travis Kelce's career

The Kansas City Royals have&nbsp;&nbsp;agreed to a three year contract extension for manager Matt Quatraro.

 The new deal begins in 2027 and runs through 2029, with a club option for the 2030 season.&nbsp; In three seasons under Quatraro, the Royals have gone 224-262. His 224 wins are already the seventh most by a Manager in franchise history.

 Among Royals Managers in their first three full seasons with the organization, Quatraro’s 224 wins rank fifth, behind only Whitey Herzog (284), Dick Howser (253), John Wathan (251) and Ned Yost (229)

After going 56-106 during Quatraro’s first season in 2023, the Royals went 86-76 in 2024, advancing to the American League Division Series, and finished 82-80 in 2025.&nbsp;&nbsp;The last two seasons have been Kansas City’s first consecutive winning campaigns since 2013-15.

In 2024, Quatraro was the runner-up in the American League Manager of the Year voting. The 2024 Royals were the sixth team in the 162-game Era (since 1961), according to Elias, to have a 30-win improvement from one season to the next (excluding shortened seasons). They were the third team ever, according to Elias, to make the postseason after a 100-loss season.

Quatraro was named the 18th full-time Manager in Royals history on Oct. 30, 2022. During his 12 seasons on a Major League staff, including four seasons with Cleveland and five with Tampa Bay,&nbsp; his teams have reached the postseason seven times and have posted a winning record 11 times.

The new deal begins in 2027 and runs through 2029, with a club option for the 2030 season.&nbsp; In three seasons under Quatraro, the Royals have gone 224-262. His 224 wins are already the seventh most by a Manager in franchise history. Among Royals Managers in their first three full seasons with the organization, Quatraro’s 224 wins rank fifth, behind only Whitey Herzog (284), Dick Howser (253), John Wathan (251) and Ned Yost (229)After going 56-106 during Quatraro’s first season in 2023, the Royals went 86-76 in 2024, advancing to the American League Division Series, and finished 82-80 in 2025.&nbsp;&nbsp;The last two seasons have been Kansas City’s first consecutive winning campaigns since 2013-15. In 2024, Quatraro was the runner-up in the American League Manager of the Year voting. The 2024 Royals were the sixth team in the 162-game Era (since 1961), according to Elias, to have a 30-win improvement from one season to the next (excluding shortened seasons). They were the third team ever, according to Elias, to make the postseason after a 100-loss season. Quatraro was named the 18th full-time Manager in Royals history on Oct. 30, 2022. Royals extend Matt Quatraro through 2029

The Northwest Missouri State men and women saw split results wrapping up a short road trip in Kearney, Nebraska, the men passing the century mark in a win, and the women falling to the Nebraska Kearney Lopers on Saturday at Health and Sports Center.&nbsp;

The Lopers landed a 71-49 home victory over the Northwest women Saturday.&nbsp; With the win, UNK improved to 9-6 overall, 2-2 MIAA, Northwest dropped its second straight game to move to 9-5 overall, 2-2 MIAA.

It was a strong start for Northwest, with Sadie Maas connecting on a three pointer to open the scoring. Despite early defensive efforts, including four blocks and four steals, the Bearcats faced challenges in maintaining the lead. Kirsten Hauck provided a critical boost with consecutive&nbsp; three pointers, narrowing the gap late in the quarter, and a late jumper by Maas brought the Bearcats within one point, ending the first quarter trailing by one 18-17.

Northwest began the second quarter holding a brief lead, sparked by Hauck's jumper at 8:22. Boston Wand extended the advantage with a layup bringing the score to 21-18. Andrea Lopreato contributed with two successful free throws at the 7:00 mark to maintain a slight edge. However, The Lopers responded with a scoring surge led by Tara Biocanin, who tied and eventually propelled the home team into the lead. Despite a late three pointer from Bailey Birmingham at 2:12 to temporarily regain the advantage, the Bearcats ended the quarter trailing 31-26.

A quick layup by Wand opened the third quarter for Northwest narrowing the deficit to three points. Despite persistent efforts, including a three pointer by Birmingham at 5:51 and a fast-break jumper from Maas, the Bearcats struggled to close the gap as UNK maintained their lead. The Bearcats faced challenges with turnovers, totaling 12 in the quarter, which hindered their comeback attempts. The quarter concluded with the Northwest trailing 53-41 as the Lopers closed with a fast-break three pointer in the final minute.

In the final quarter the Bearcats once again began the scoring with a layup by Wand at 9:30. Despite this early basket, they continued to struggle to maintain momentum against UNK, who responded with a series of successful plays, including a three-pointer by Gosia Byczkowska at 7:26, widening the gap. The Bearcats attempted to close the deficit with a three-pointer from Reese Pasternik at 7:50, but the Lopers continued to extend their lead with effective scoring.&nbsp; Northwest faced challenges in breaking through Nebraska Kearney's defense, with a notable turnover at critical moments. Avery Yosten added a three-pointer at 2:03, but it was not enough to shift the tide.&nbsp;

Nebraska Kearney outscored the Bearcats in the second half, 40-23, forcing 22 turnovers and holding Northwest to a low 37.3% from the field.&nbsp; Birmigham tallied a team-best 11 points while Hauck notched 10 points to round out the double digit scoring.&nbsp; Maas narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Northwest men reached the century mark and picked up a 100-94 victory Saturday at Health and Sports Center.&nbsp; With the win, Northwest moves to 9-6 overall, 2-2 MIAA, while the Lopers dip to 7-8 overall and remain winless in league play at 0-4.

The win marks the first 100-point game of head coach Matt Keeley's Bearcat coaching career. It's the first 100-point game for the Bearcats since a 105-53 win over Nebraska Kearney on February 1st, 2024.&nbsp;

Northwest opened the first half with an efficient start, quickly establishing a 4–0 lead with jumpers from Aiden Gair and Royce Williams. Despite the Lopers taking the lead briefly, the Bearcats responded with a series of plays, including a fast break layup by Gair at 6:50 to cut the deficit to 28–24. The half featured significant contributions from Williams as well, who scored a crucial three pointer at the 1:22 mark to pull the Bearcats to within one.&nbsp; As the half neared its conclusion, Williams found the net again with a three pointer with 56 seconds remaining, reclaiming the lead for the Bearcats, then capped the half with a jumper with eight seconds left, securing a 41–39 advantage at the end of the first half.

Northwest pulled away with a crucial run midway through the second half, highlighted by Gair's three-pointer at 10:41, extending their lead to 75–68. Williams and Larenz Walters were pivotal during the stretch, contributing with key baskets and free throws. Despite UNK's attempts to close the gap, the Bearcats maintained their lead with efficient shooting and defensive stops as Northwest outscored the Lopers 59-55 in the half, shooting 59.3% from the floor in the final 20 minutes. The Bearcats also sank 26-of-34 free throws, including 19-of-25 throughout the second half of action.

Five players scored in double-figure for Northwest, led by a pair of 25-point games from Gair and Williams.&nbsp; Williams was also just shy of a triple-double, pulling down nine rebounds and dishing nine assists.&nbsp; Walters notched a career-high 19 points off the bench draining 12-of-13 free throws. Matthew Mayes and Trey Moala each tallied 10 points to round out the double digit scoring.&nbsp;

Northwest will return home to begin a four game homestand, first taking on Central Missouri Wednesday,&nbsp; The women will tipoff at 5:30 pm, with the men following at 7:30pm.

Northwest men hit century mark in win, Bearcat women fall to UNK

The Missouri Western State University men and women's basketball teams fell on the road Saturday in Hays, Kansas against Fort Hays state to wrap up a short road trip before returning to St. Joseph on Wednesday.&nbsp;

The MoWest men dropped a tightly contested matchup, falling to the Tigers 67–65 at Gross Memorial Coliseum to open the afternoon as the MIAA Game of the Week.&nbsp; The loss dropped the Griffons to 11-3 on the season, 3-1 in the MIAA, and improved Fort Hays to 10-3, 2-2 MIAA.

A defensive, low scoring opening half saw Hays build a 13-6 advantage at the 12:10 mark.&nbsp; But, MoWest answered with a strong finish and took a lead heading into the halftime break, going ahead of the Tigers by one 28-27 as Marko Pavlovic scored in the paint in the final 30 seconds to give the Griffons the lead.

MoWest carried that momentum into the second half, opening on an extended run to build their largest lead of the game at 14 points. Pavlovic scored repeatedly in the paint.&nbsp; Noah King pushed the pace and attacked the rim in transition, and Pavlovic capped the surge at the free-throw line to give MoWest a 45–31 advantage with just under 14 minutes remaining.

The Tigers stormed back, answering with steady pressure, Hays grabbing their first lead since the end of the first half, going ahead 56–55, with 4:39 remaining.&nbsp; Six lead changes happened over the final minutes, Gavin Hershberger hitting a go ahead three with 3:54 remaining that put the Griffons in front 60–59.&nbsp; Hershberger later came up big at the free throw line, giving the Griffons a 65–63 advantage with just over a minute remaining.

After Fort Hays State tied the game at 65–65 from the free-throw line with 56 seconds remaining though, the Tigers secured a defensive rebound with 30 seconds left, giving Hays an opportunity to take the lead. Lucas Hammeke finished a layup at the basket with four seconds on the clock to put the Tigers ahead 67–65. MoWest's final three-point attempt at the buzzer was blocked, sealing the narrow road loss.

Pavlovic led the way with a double-double, tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds.&nbsp; Hershberger followed with 15 points.&nbsp; King chipped in 11 points to round out the double digit scoring.&nbsp; The Griffons finished the game shooting 42.3% from the field and 27.8% from three-point range.&nbsp; MoWest shot 66.7% at the free-throw line.

The MoWest women were outscored by #6 Fort Hays State 31-13 in the third quarter, leading to a 87-56 defeat at the hand of the Tigers at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

MoWest, which hadn't lost in Hays since February 2022, hung in early, trailing 36-31 at halftime after holding the Tigers to eight second quarter points.&nbsp; The third quarter though got off to a bad start quickly, as Hays opened the second half on a 17-2 run to lead 53-35 with 4:30 remaining in the third.&nbsp; 

The Griffons were held scoreless for the first 5:23 of the fourth quarter, allowing the Tigers lead to balloon to as much as 35 points.&nbsp; MoWest shot just 24.1% in the second half, and were just just 1-of-10 from three.

With the loss The Griffons are now 4-9, starting 0-4 in the MIAA play for the first time since 2013-14.&nbsp; Hays improved to 12-1, 3-1 MIAA.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mia Morel led MoWest with 13 points. LaNicia Parker came off the bench for 11 points. Ana Oliveira Dias scored 10 to round out the double digit scoring, while Nakiya Harris had a game-high 16 rebounds.
