A rainy morning didn't keep the St. Joseph Mustangs from playing their annual game against some of their prestigious alumni, and it was the young bucks that took home a win, winning 9-3 over the Mustangs Alumni at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp;

Current Mustangs manager and Benton alum Johnny Coy playing for the alumni, opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single, driving in Mid-Buchanan alum Brady Holden for the early lead.&nbsp; In the bottom half, the Mustangs took the lead back with a three run frame, Savannah alum Truman Bodenhausen driving in Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart and Logan Miller with a single and&nbsp;Tyler Gundelfinger reaching first on an error and scoring Jack Mosh.

Dale Wheeler narrowed cut the Mustangs lead to one in the third inning, driving in Lafayette alum Ike Book for the alumni.&nbsp; But in the bottom half of the inning, four runs scored by the Mustangs, Bodenhausen again driving in Luikart on a groundout, before a double by Gundelfinger drove in Justin George and Mosh.&nbsp; Gundelfinger later scored on a single by Dom Felix, pushing the Mustangs lead to 7-2.&nbsp;

T.J Dailey drove in the final run for the alumni in the seventh inning, scoring Holden.&nbsp; In the eighth, the Mustangs scored their final two runs.&nbsp; A single by&nbsp;Diego De Santiago scoring Gundelfinger, while&nbsp;Caden Carter rounded the bases on a throwing error for the final run.&nbsp;

Gundelfinger was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI's in the win, walking once and stealing a base.&nbsp; Luikart was also 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored in the win over the alumni.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The win for the Mustangs ended a seven game homestand to begin the season for the Mustangs.&nbsp; They hit the road for the first time next on Tuesday, taking on the&nbsp;Sedalia Bombers.

Young Mustangs take down the Stallions, Mustangs top Mustangs Alumni 9-3

The St. Joseph Mustangs scored another big win in MINK league play to stay undefeated in league play, beating the Chillicothe Mudcats 11-4 at Phil Welch Stadium on Friday evening.&nbsp;

The Mustangs started off in dominant fashion too, shutting out the Mudcats through the first five innings.&nbsp; St. Joseph got on the board in the first inning thanks to Benton alum Chris Coy singling into left field, driving in Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart and Dom Felix for a quick 2-0 lead.&nbsp;

Things broke open in the fourth inning as the Mustangs put up four runs, the biggest coming on the first home run of the season in St. Joseph, courtesy of Northwest Missouri State's Parker Griffith, a solo shot to left field.&nbsp; A sacrifice fly by Darius Freeman later in the inning extended the lead more, driving in&nbsp;Tyler Gundelfinger, before Felix singled to left to bring home Logan Miller and Lafayette alum Jayden Little, pushing the lead to 6-0.&nbsp;

Three more runs scored in the fifth inning, first with Little driving in Griffith on an RBI single.&nbsp; Little later scored on a single from Freeman, which also drove in Miller and gave St. Joseph a 9-0 lead at the end of five innings.&nbsp;

Chillicothe found their way onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning with a three run frame, hitting the second home run of the game as&nbsp;Luke DeWitt, who also pitched two innings of relief for the Mudcats, hit a two run home run, scoring&nbsp;John Spoto.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jordi Ventura came across home later in the inning on a groundout by&nbsp;Ethan Murakoshi, cutting the Mustangs lead to 9-3.&nbsp;

But St. Joseph never wavered, adding the final two runs in the seventh inning.&nbsp; Freeman's sacrifice fly scored Miller, for Freeman's fourth RBI of the game.&nbsp; Later in the inning Felix doubled to drive in Luikart for the final Mustangs run.&nbsp; Over the last two games, Freeman has now driven in nine runs, after driving in five on Thursday against Jefferson City.

Murakoshi singled to left field in the eighth inning for the Mudcats, driving in&nbsp;Aiden Baerenklau for the final run of the game.

Aron Harrington got the win for the Mustangs, pitching five shutout innings, striking out six and giving up two hits while walking three.&nbsp; At the plate, Felix was 3-for-4 with three RBI's and a walk.&nbsp; Griffith was 1-for-2 with the home run and two walks, he also stole two bases in the win.&nbsp; Freeman was 1-for-4 with the four RBI's.&nbsp;

The Mustangs have one more home game tomorrow, before they hit the road for the first time on Tuesday.&nbsp; It will be the annual matchup between the St. Joseph Mustangs and the Mustangs alumni on Saturday at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp; First pitch is at 7pm, gates open at 5:30.

Another big win as Mustangs top Chillicothe 11-4

While Cardinals fans welcomed back former utility player Tommy Edman with a standing ovation, the St. Louis bats and excellent pitching spoiled their former teammates return as the Redbirds shutout the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 on Friday night at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;

Rain delayed the game, which was supposed to begin at 7:15, and the teams had to wait until just after 8:30 to get started.&nbsp; After a scoreless first, the Cardinals got on the board in the second, catcher Pedro Pagés hitting a two run home run to left field, driving in Nolan Arenado who singled earlier in the inning.&nbsp;

St. Louis extended the lead in the fifth inning adding two more runs on an RBI single by Brendan Donovan, scoring&nbsp;Pagés and Lars Nootbaar who both walked in the inning.&nbsp; The final run in the eighth came courtesy of another home run, this time by a former catcher Willson Contreras.

Sonny Gray was again excellent on the mound for the Cardinals, earning the win and improving to 7-1 on the season, pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits while striking out five in the shutout effort.&nbsp; Over his last four starts, Gray has pitched 25 1/3 innings, giving up just three runs and striking out 30.

At the plate, Arenado led the way for the Cardinals going 3-for 4 with one run scored.&nbsp;&nbsp; Pagés was 1-for-2 with two RBI's and two runs scored while walking once, while Contreras was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the win.&nbsp;

St. Louis and Los Angeles continue their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Erick Fedde (3-5, 3.82 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals against&nbsp;Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6-4, 2.39 ERA) for the Dodgers.&nbsp; First pitch is at 1:15pm, pregame will be joined at 1:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).

Cardinals shut out Dodgers 5-0 in Edman's return to Busch Stadium

The Kansas City Royal got back to back home runs from Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino to take a lead in the third inning, but with the game tied, their bullpen surrendered five runs in the eighth inning as they fell to the Chicago White Sox 7-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field.&nbsp;

Kansas City first fell behind in the bottom of the second inning when Luis Robert Jr singled to drive in&nbsp;Joshua Palacios.&nbsp; In the third inning, Garcia and Pasquantino homered after Jonathan India and Bobby Witt Jr struck out to open the inning, giving the Royals a 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

The White Sox tied up the game against Royals starter Seth Lugo in the fifth inning, a solo home run by&nbsp;Mike Tauchman, but Lugo was able to get out of the inning the rest of the way without giving them the lead, getting Chase Meidroth to line out and former Royal Andrew Benintendi to ground out.&nbsp;

Lugo was replaced by Daniel Lynch in the sixth, and Lynch pitched 1 1/3 innings before giving way to Jonathan Bowlan in the seventh with one out and a runner on.&nbsp; Bowlan got Tim Elko to ground out but walked Tauchman, before striking out Meidroth to end the inning.&nbsp; He would not get so lucky in the eighth inning.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Benintendi doubled to lead the inning off, and was replaced by another former Royal in pinch runner Michael A Taylor.&nbsp; Bowlan got Miguel Vargas to ground out, but then issued back to back walks to Austin Slater and Kyle Teel to load the bases.&nbsp; A single from Robert Jr drove in two runs as Taylor and Slater scored.&nbsp; Josh Rojas reached first on a forceout, but the bases were reloaded as Bowlan walked Elko, and was then replaced by Taylor Clarke.&nbsp;

Clarke would not fare much better, immediately allowing Teel to score on a wild pitch.&nbsp; Rojas came home to score as Tauchman reached first on a fielding error by Garcia, and then Elko scored on a wild pickoff attempt from Clarke for the final run.&nbsp;

Bowlan took the loss, falling to 1-1, pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up five runs, three earned, giving up two hits and walking four batters while striking out one.&nbsp; Bobby Witt Jr and Drew Waters both led at the plate for the Royals going 2-for-4.

Royals bullpen collapses in 7-2 loss to Chicago White Sox

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from their first loss of the season in a big way, scoring a 12-2 run rule win over the Jefferson City Renegades on Thursday afternoon at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp; It's the second run rule win of the season, after the Mustangs beat the Nevada Griffons 11-1 in seven innings to open MINK league play last Saturday.&nbsp;

The Mustangs opened the scoring in the bottom of the first to take the lead as Dom Felix singled to drive in Darius Freeman.&nbsp; But in the second inning, the Renegades took their only lead of the game, scoring their only runs, as Dane Gray hit a single bringing home two runs as&nbsp;Alex DiGicianto and&nbsp;P.J. Green scored to take the 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

St. Joseph began to take the game over in the fifth inning though, first scoring three runs, Freeman driving in his first of five runs on the day on a single when Logan Miller scored.&nbsp; A groundout by Felix drove in another run, bringing home Trevor McCollum, and Freeman scored on a single by Jack Mosh, flipping the lead to 4-2 Mustangs.&nbsp;

Two more runs scored in the sixth, courtesy of Freeman reaching on an error, Miller and Savannah alum Truman Bodenhausen coming across to score.&nbsp; The seventh saw the Mustangs break the lead open even more, with a five run frame, starting with a bases loaded walk to Northwest Missouri State's Parker Griffith, driving in Felix, extending the lead to 7-2.&nbsp;

The scoring run continued in the seventh, Bodenhausen singling next to drive in Benton alum Chris Coy and Justin George.&nbsp; Two more runs scored on another single by Freeman, bringing across Griffith and Bodenhausen.&nbsp; St. Joseph walked it off in the eighth inning, Bodenhausen singling to score Coy.&nbsp;

East Buchanan alum Bronco Whitt pitched two scoreless innings of relief, after starter Landon Reith pitched three innings.&nbsp; Whitt gave up no hits and struck out two batters.&nbsp; Reith gave up the only hits to the Renegades on the night.&nbsp; At the plate, Freeman was the leader going 3-for-5 with 5 RBI's and two stolen bases, also getting a triple on the night.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Mustangs are now 4-1 on the season, and 2-0 in the MINK League, and will next play the Chillicothe Mudcats at Phil Welch Stadium tomorrow.&nbsp; First pitch is at 7pm, gates will open at 5:30.

Mustangs bounce back, stay undefeated in MINK league with 12-2 run rule win

St. Joseph's Noah Cameron pitched another gem, but the St. Louis Cardinals hit the Kansas City Royals bullpen hard, and in extra innings the Cardinals took game one of a doubleheader, winning 6-5 in 10 innings at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;

Jonathan India got the Royals started off on the right foot, getting Cameron the lead early and on the first pitch, hitting a leadoff home run into left field to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead.&nbsp; In the bottom half of the inning, Cameron quickly worked through the St. Louis lineup,&nbsp; retiring the first three batters on 12 pitches, striking out Brendan Donovan to end the inning.&nbsp;

Cameron's roughest inning of the game was the second inning, which started with back to back walks, throwing 25 pitches, but still got out unscathed. The Royals extended the lead in the fourth inning behind back to back doubles, the first coming from Salvador Perez, before top prospect Jac Caglianone notched his first major league hit and RBI, driving in Perez with a double down the right field foul line.&nbsp;

Vinnie Pasquantino singled in the fifth inning, scoring Bobby Witt Jr, to push the Royals ahead more, giving Cameron a 3-0 lead, which he exited with after six innings of work as manager Matt Quatraro went to his bullpen, calling on John Schreiber for the seventh inning.&nbsp;

With his six scoreless innings of work, Cameron becomes the 1st pitcher since Fernando Valenzuela (1981) to spin six plus innings pitched with one run or fewer allowed in each of his first five MLB starts.&nbsp; Cameron struck out three and walked two, also giving up just two hits in the start.&nbsp;

St. Louis cut the lead to one against Schreiber in the seventh.&nbsp; Willson Contreras doubled and&nbsp;Iván Herrera singled, putting runners on the corners, before Nolan Arenado grounded into a forceout where the Royals were unable to turn a double play, Contreras scoring and Arenado being safe at first as Herrera was out at second.&nbsp; Yohel Pozo later in the inning hit a sacrifice fly scoring Arenado.&nbsp;

In the eighth, the Cardinals took the lead, against Taylor Clarke who had seemed to find his groove after some rough seasons, Herrera giving the Redbirds the lead on a two run home run to center field driving in Donovan and himself.&nbsp;

Kansas City forced extra innings though against Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley.&nbsp; &nbsp;Michael Massey singled, and was pinch ran for by Nick Loftin, which was followed by a single by Kyle Isbel, moving Loftin to third base.&nbsp; India's deep fly ball to left field scored Loftin to tie the game, and moved Isbel to second base, allowing Helsley to intentionally walk Witt Jr.&nbsp; &nbsp;Maikel Garcia popped out to end the inning.&nbsp;

After St. Louis did nothing in the bottom half of the inning, Garcia started the 10th at second base, and was promptly driven in for the Royals lead by Pasquantino on a single, though the Royals could do no more and Carlos Estévez was brought on to try to earn the save, with Pozo starting the bottom half at second for the Cardinals.&nbsp;

Lars Nootbaar's single&nbsp; moved Pozo to third base, and Pozo later scored in the next at bat, Nootbaar moving to second, on a groundout by Masyn Winn.&nbsp;&nbsp;Estévez intentonally walked Donovan, setting up the force out at any base, but Contreras singled into left field, bringing Nootbaar home for the walk off win.&nbsp;

JoJo Romero earned the win in relief for the Cardinals, improving to 2-3 on the season, pitching one inning and giving up one hit with one unearned run, striking out one.&nbsp;&nbsp;Estévez blew his third save, falling to 2-1, recording just one out, giving up two hits and two runs, just one earned, and walking one.&nbsp;

At the plate, Nootbaar (2-5, 1 R), Contreras (2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB), and Herrera (2-3, 2 RBI, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 BB) led the way for St. Louis.&nbsp; For the Royals, Pasquantino was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while India (2-4, 2 RBI, 1 HR, 1 R) and Perez (2-5, 1 R) also helped in the loss.&nbsp;

Kansas City and St. Louis wrap up their series in game two of the doubleheader this evening.&nbsp; Cole Ragans (2-3, 4.53 ERA) takes the mound for the Royals, it’ll be Ragans’ first start since May 16, when he allowed four runs to these Cardinals in five innings at Kauffman Stadium.&nbsp; For the Cardinals, Matthew Liberatore (3-4, 3.08 ERA) will start.

A baserunning miscue cost the St. Joseph Mustangs a shot at tying up the game, and the Kansas City Monarchs picked off Jack Mosh to hand the Mustangs their first loss of the season 2-1 at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp;

The Mustangs trailed 2-0 until the eighth inning, when Trevor McCollum singled into right field to drive in a run.&nbsp; In the ninth inning St. Joseph got two runners on, but with two outs Mosh was picked off by Blake Colon, who moved from right field to the pitchers mound.&nbsp;

Due to inclement weather in the St. Louis area, Wednesday's game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium has been postponed.

The Cardinals and Royals will play a split doubleheader on Thursday, with Game 1 starting at 12:45 p.m. and Game 2 following at 6:45.

Royals and Cardinals postponed Wednesday, split doubleheader Thursday

A longtime punter for the Kansas City Chiefs is ending his career in the city that he started and spent 15 years in as Dustin Colquitt signed a one day contract so he can retire as a Chief.&nbsp;

Colquitt spent the first 15 years of his career in Kansas City from 2005 to 2020. After that, he was signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2020-21 season and the Atlanta Falcons in the 2021-22 season. He has been with the Cleveland Browns since the 2021-22 season.

Colquitt was an impactful player during his time in Kansas City, setting several franchise records. He earned Pro Bowl honors twice and was a member of the winning Super Bowl 54 team.&nbsp; He is also a three-time nominee for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the league's most prestigious honor that recognizes players who make a difference in their community on and off the field.&nbsp;

Colquitt still holds records in KC, including most games played with 238 and career punting average of 44.8 yards.

The Chiefs congratulated Colquitt on his retirement on social media.

Longtime Chiefs punter Colquitt signs one day contract to retire with team

The Kansas City Royals offense already looked different as top prospect Jac Caglianone made his major league debut in St. Louis on Tuesday afternoon, and the Royals battled back and forth with the Cardinals in an offensive duel, winning 10-7

It was an unfortunate debut for Caglianone at the plate, going 0-for-5, batting sixth in the lineup and playing designated hitter.&nbsp; General Manager JJ Picollo said earlier in the day that Caglianone would play DH to become acclimated to the big league level.&nbsp;

The Royals struck first in the game, Jonathan India singling to leadoff the game and then Bobby Witt Jr hitting his seventh home run of the season into the center field stands to give Kansas City a 2-0 lead.&nbsp; Caglianone was left in the on deck circle though in the opening inning as Salvador Perez grounded out to end the inning, three straight outs following the home run.&nbsp;

After starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen cruised through the bottom of the first inning, giving up just a double to Brendan Donovan, a crowd of Royals fans on hand at Busch Stadium, as well as his family, prepared for Caglianone's first at bat, and almost got a look at his pure power right away as the rookie got a hold of a breaking ball and hit it hard into the right center field gap, but was robbed of his first major league hit by center fielder Victor Scott II.

St. Louis tied up the game in the bottom half of the inning, Nolan Gorman hitting his second home run of the season, which was nearly robbed by center fielder Kyle Isbel.&nbsp; Then, in the bottom of the third inning, the Cardinals got to Lorenzen, putting up a five spot on the scoreboard to take what seemed like an insurmountable lead, with how the Royals offense has been performing.&nbsp;

A ground rule double from Willson Contreras drove in Masyn Winn, the 500th RBI of Contreras's career, to give the Redbirds the lead.&nbsp; With two outs, a single from Nolan Arenado scored Donovan and Contreras, both coming home on a throwing error by Maikel Garcia, to extend the lead even more, before Alec Burleson hit a two run home run to center field off Lorenzen, chasing him from the game for Daniel Lynch and giving St. Louis a 7-2 lead.&nbsp;

Trailing by five runs as of late seemed like a death sentence for Kansas City, but not this new look offense, which put up six runs in the fifth inning to take the lead back, starting with a solo home run by Nick Loftin, his first of the season to left field. Singles from Drew Waters, Isbel, and India followed the home run, loading the bases for Witt Jr against Cardinals starting pitcher Andre Pallante.&nbsp;

Witt Jr battled to a full count with Pallante, fouling off pitches, before hitting a fourth straight single into left field, bringing home Waters and Isbel, cutting the St Louis lead to two, and sending Pallante to the dugout for Steven Matz to come to the mound.&nbsp; Matz did get the second out, getting Garcia to flyout to right field, but Vinnie Pasquantino doubled, his seventh of the season, driving in India and Witt Jr to tie the game.&nbsp; The Royals took the lead in the next at bat, Perez singling into left field, allowing Pasquantino to come home.&nbsp;

The Cardinals were unable to answer in the bottom half, and in the top of the sixth Matz opened with back to back strikeouts of Loftin and Waters, but then gave up a single to Isbel, and was replaced by Kyle Leahy.&nbsp; Leahy was greeted giving up a single to India, and walking Witt Jr to load the bases, before allowing two more runs to score as Garcia singled into right field, driving in Isbel and India, to push the lead to 10-7.&nbsp;

Steven Cruz earned the win in relief, improving to 2-0 on the season, pitching 1 2/3 innings, striking out two batters.&nbsp; India led the way at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored.&nbsp; Witt Jr (2-4, 4 RBIs), Pasquantino (2-5, 2 RBIs), and Isbel (2-3, 2 R's) also contributed to the offense.&nbsp;

For the Cardinals, Matz took the loss, falling to 3-2, pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two runs on three hits and striking out two.&nbsp; Burleson led the way going 3-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored, walking once.&nbsp; Winn (2-4, 1 R, 1 BB) and Gorman (2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB) also added contributions.&nbsp;

It will be a rematch at Busch Stadium tomorrow, as Noah Cameron (2-1, 1.05 ERA) takes the mound for the Royals against Miles Mikolas (4-2, 3.90 ERA) for the Cardinals.&nbsp; When the two matched up at Kauffman Stadium, it was Cameron's home debut, and the Royals fell 1-0, the only run being a home run by Jordan Walker, who is currently on the IL for St. Louis.&nbsp;

Cagilanone hitless in debut, but Royals top Cardinals 10-7

 Northwest Missouri State University is again offering youth an opportunity to play video games with peers during two esports summer camps in July on campus.

Northwest will host an Esports day camp for middle school and high school students from Monday, July 14, through Friday, July 18.&nbsp; Camp sessions are 9am to 11:30 a.m. each day in the Esports Lab at the J.W. Jones Student Union, the cost is $75 per person.

The University will also host an overnight camp, beginning with check-in at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, and ending at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 25, the cost is $160 per person. The overnight camp provides participants an opportunity to experience campus residence halls and dining services while developing skills needed to be recruited as an esports athlete. 

During both camps, attending boys and girls will participate in fun, team-oriented gaming activities while learning skills related to communication, team development, problem-solving and best online practices.

“It gives students a great opportunity to connect with like-minded peers,” Andrew Murphy, Northwest’s esports director, said in a news release from the university. “The issue sometimes with gaming is that when you’re playing from home, it’s really hard to connect with people, even if you’re playing with people online. The camp offers an opportunity to play games together and do things together.”

NWMSU offering Esports camps in July to students

A community member has stepped up and given the generous gift of free tickets to the St. Joseph Mustangs game on Saturday. 

Mustangs General Manager and Owner Ky Turner says in 2022 an anonymous donor gifted tickets to games, and wanted to do it again this year, donating 500 tickets to the Mustangs. 

Turner says the whole intent behind this is to do something nice, and hopefully have the domino effect, influencing others to go do something nice as well 

"We're very appreciative of the people involved in making this possible, but then we're also very appreciative the people who take the challenge," Turner tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.  "We heard so many great stories, whether it's just holding the door open for somebody, I think one person said they went to a garage sale and they bought some items for some people who couldn't afford an item and so they did something nice and purchased it for them." 

Turner says when the offer went up on social media, fans were very receptive 

"We surpassed that 500 in under the first hour, and so I actually made a phone call and I haven't made this edit online yet, I just went to the person who made that donation and I said hey this went quicker than what we thought, so they've actually upped their donation of how many tickets they're going to provide," Turner explains. "So, we're kind of reserving that number back so I can just tell them once we get there, and they say ok that's enough." 

Turner says it feels good to be able to use Mustangs baseball as a platform for this. 

"We're so appreciative of the team effort, whether it's the team on the field and playing the game but then the team off the field in our community and just doing nice things there," Turner says.  "It's really neat to use Mustangs baseball as that platform and just the domino effect it can have in our community, and St. Joe is just a wonderful community, it's full of a lot of great people, and I don't think sometimes we realize how awesome St. Joe is and can be."

They had an opportunity to add&nbsp;dd two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom to the list Sunday afternoon, but despite a solid start from Erick Fedde, they fell short in an 8-1 loss to the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.&nbsp;&nbsp;It had little to do with Fedde though, who delivered his first quality start since posting a shutout at Washington on May 9.&nbsp;&nbsp;Fedde allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts over six innings, exiting with the Cardinals trailing just 2-1. 

St. Louis did take the lead early on in the game, scoring their lone run in the first inning as Willson Contreras singled home Lars Nootbaar who had walked to open the game against deGrom.&nbsp; The second inning is the only time Fedde couldn’t work his way out of trouble. Fedde retired the first two batters before giving up a single to Marcus Semien on a 2-0 cutter. Fedde issued a five-pitch walk to Sam Haggerty, the Rangers’ nine-hole batter, and then gave up a two-run double to Josh Smith making the Cardinals' early 1-0 lead a short-lived one.

Wyatt Langford's sacrifice fly off of reliever Kyle Leahy in the seventh inning extended the Rangers lead, driving in Semien.&nbsp; Texas added their final five runs in the eighth inning, the first coming on an RBI double by Jake Burger, scoring Josh Jung, before later in the inning Jonah Heim's sacrifice fly brought home&nbsp;Alejandro Osuna.&nbsp; Haggerty's sacrifice bunt continued the scoring run, allowing Burger to score, and Smith capped the scoring with a two run home run in the inning, for his third and fourth RBI's of the day.&nbsp;

Fedde has first quality start since May 9th, but Cardinals fall in finale 8-1

Northwest Missouri State University track and field distance runners Grant Bradley and Riley Witt took their talents to the 23rd annual Music City Track Carnival on Friday and Saturday at the Ray Conn Sport Complex at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.

Bradley won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:29.68 as he bested a field of seven competitors. It was a personal-best time for Bradley and would rank as the second-fastest clocking in the steeplechase for an NCAA Div. II runner this year.

Wingate's Titouan Le Grix posted a mark of 8:29.02 on April 18. Bradley's previous best in the event came with a 8:32.43 clocking at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.

Witt captured third-place honors in the men's mile with a time of 4:02.09 as he took on a field of 19 runners. It is also a personal-best mark for Witt in the men's mile as his previous top mark came indoors at 4:02.56 at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 25. 

Witt's time of 4:02.09 would rank as the second-best NCAA D-II time this year trailing only Chico State's Damian Garciaso's time of 4:01.88 set on April 12.

NWMSU track athletes Bradley, Witt rack up personal bests at Music City Track Carnival

Kris Bubic picked up right where he left off in May to start June on the mound for the Kansas City Royals, but a lack of offense foiled that start and gave the Detroit Tigers a series win, winning 1-0 at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

The lone run given up by Bubic in the third inning, was on a wild pitch.&nbsp;&nbsp;Zach McKinstry tripled to open the inning, before a sweeper from Bubic got away from catcher Salvador Perez and allowed McKinstry to come home to score.&nbsp; From there, Bubic allowed just two more hits in the game, before being replaced by Angel Zerpa.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Royals did outhit the Tigers in the game nine to five, but Kansas City was 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position, and left eight runners on base in the game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bubic took the loss, falling to 5-3 on the season, pitching seven innings and giving up four hits in all, striking out nine and walking two batters.&nbsp; His season ERA is now 1.43, which is the league leader, and made his ninth quality start, tying him for the most in baseball.&nbsp; Perez led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4.&nbsp; John Rave was 2-for-4 in the loss.&nbsp;

Kansas City is off tomorrow, and will head to St. Louis on Tuesday.&nbsp; Michael Lorenzen (3-6, 4.33 ERA) is set to start for the Royals in the series opener while Andre Pallante (4-3, 4.23 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Cardinals.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:45 pm. By MATT PIKEKris Bubic picked up right where he left off in May to start June on the mound for the Kansas City Royals, but a lack of offense foiled that start and gave the Detroit Tigers a series win, winning 1-0 at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;The lone run given up by Bubic in the third inning, was on a wild pitch.&nbsp;&nbsp;Zach McKinstry tripled to open the inning, before a sweeper from Bubic got away from catcher Salvador Perez and allowed McKinstry to come home to score.&nbsp; From there, Bubic allowed just two more hits in the game, before being replaced by Angel Zerpa.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Royals did outhit the Tigers in the game nine to five, but Kansas City was 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position, and left eight runners on base in the game.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bubic took the loss, falling to 5-3 on the season, pitching seven innings and giving up four hits in all, striking out nine and walking two batters.&nbsp; His season ERA is now 1.43, which is the league leader, and made his ninth quality start, tying him for the most in baseball.&nbsp; Perez led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4.&nbsp; John Rave was 2-for-4 in the loss.&nbsp;Kansas City is off tomorrow, and will head to St. Louis on Tuesday.&nbsp; Michael Lorenzen (3-6, 4.33 ERA) is set to start for the Royals in the series opener while Andre Pallante (4-3, 4.23 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Cardinals.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:45 pm. Royals drop series to Tigers despite another brilliant start from Bubic

The Royals are calling up their top prospect, slugger Jac Caglianone.&nbsp; ESPN's Jeff Passan was the first to report the call up, which was soon confirmed to MLB.com Royals reporter Anne Rogers.

Caglianone, the No. 10-ranked prospect in baseball and the top prospet in the Royals system according to MLB Pipeline, has been mashing in the Minors with a .322/.389/.593 slash line to go along with 15 homers and 56 RBIs in 50 games between Double-A and Triple-A.

Earlier this season, when called up to Triple A Omaha, Caglianone went on a weekend stretch where he hit five home runs in four games while the Stormchasers were on the road in Salt Lake City.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A 6-foot-5, 250-pound two-way player at the University of Florida, Caglianone transitioned to a full-time offensive player after joining the Royals organization following last July's draft. Originally a first baseman, he has spent the majority of his Triple-A games in the outfield and is expected to play there when he joins the Royals for their series that starts Tuesday in St. Louis.

Kansas City Royals calling up top prospect Jac Caglianone

On Northwest Missouri State University night at the ballpark, it was a Northwest Missouri State University pitcher who shut down the Nevada Griffons as the St. Joseph Mustangs opened MINK league play with an 11-1 run rule victory in seven innings.&nbsp;

Northwest Missouri State University pitcher and Bishop LeBlond alum Jaren Guck took the mound and pitched four innings, striking out 10 Griffons on the night, giving up just the one run and three hits, while walking one, earning his first win of the season.&nbsp;&nbsp;Caden Carter pitched the final three innings, striking out six, walking two and giving up two hits.&nbsp;

The Mustangs did fall behind in the first inning, as the Griffons struck for their one run early,&nbsp;Griffin DuVall singling home&nbsp;Joe Adams.&nbsp; But, St. Joseph quickly took the lead back, thanks to a four run second inning.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tyler Gundelfinger reached first on a throwing error, scoring another Northwest product, catcher Parker Griffith, and advancing Benton alum Chris Coy to third base.&nbsp; Coy scored on a single by Lafayette alum Jayden Little, before Savannah alum&nbsp;Truman Bodenhausen reached first on a fielders choice, scoring&nbsp;Gundelfinger.&nbsp; Trevor McCollum's sacrifice fly to right field later in the inning brought Bodenhausen home.&nbsp;

Two more runs were added in the fourth inning.&nbsp; Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart singled and Jack Mosh reached on an error before Griffith was walked to load the bases.&nbsp; With the bases loaded, Coy was hit by a pitch, bringing Luikart home to score.&nbsp; A sacrifice fly by&nbsp;Gundelfinger scored Mosh.&nbsp; Another two runs were added in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Gundelfinger, as Luikart and Mosh both scored.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A three run seventh inning was the final blow, and secured the walk off in the run rule win.&nbsp; With the bases loaded, Mosh walked to bring home Darius Freeman.&nbsp; A single from Griffith drove in McCollum before Coy hit a walk off sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Luikart.&nbsp;

At the plate, Griffith and Luikart led the way, both going 2-for-3, Griffith with one RBI and one run scored, walking twice while Luikart scored three runs.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gundelfinger was 0-for-1 but drove in four runs, and walked once.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Mustangs are now off until Wednesday, June 4th, when they again host the KC Monarchs.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:30pm with gates opening at 5:15 at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp; It will be&nbsp;Baseball and Babies Night with activities for young families throughout the stadium, courtesy of Parents as Teachers. Mustangs win MINK league opener with 11-1 run rule victory over Nevada

The St. Louis Cardinals bounced back from a performance on Friday where they managed just one run and five hits against the Texas Rangers, getting a 2-0 shutout win on Saturday afternoon at Globe Life Field.&nbsp;

Prior to the game,&nbsp;The Cardinals placed Jordan Walker on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation, retroactive to Thursday.&nbsp;Walker had found his offensive stroke of late, batting .300 in his last 14 games played with a .792 OPS and 11 RBIs.&nbsp; &nbsp;In a corresponding move, the Cardinals selected outfielder Ryan Vilade from Triple-A Memphis. Vilade, was expected to arrive in the middle of Saturday’s game, was batting .280 with five home runs and 31 RBIs at Memphis.&nbsp; Vilade played in the big leagues in 2021 with Colorado and in 2024 with Detroit.

The Cardinals made a couple of pitching moves before Saturday’s game as well, optioning righty Gordon Graceffo to Memphis and recalling right-hander Roddery Muñoz. Marmol said Graceffo will remain in a relief role at Memphis with the idea of him being a multi-inning weapon out of the bullpen.

The Cardinals started their scoring in the second inning.&nbsp; Willson Contreras walked to open the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch, before moving to third on a ground out by&nbsp;Iván Herrera.&nbsp; A sacrifice fly by Nolan Arenado drove in Contreras for the score.&nbsp; In the fourth inning, St. Louis scored their second run as Masyn Winn doubled, and was driven in on a ground rule double by Contreras.&nbsp;

Sonny Gray improved to 6-1 on the season with an ace-worthy, seven inning, shutout performance. He retired nine straight at one point, including striking out the side in the third inning. In the fifth, Gray found himself in a jam as the Rangers had two baserunners reach, but he ended that threat by getting Kyle Higashioka to fly out to center.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gray faced traffic again in the seventh, giving up a one-out single to Alejandro Osuna, but he finished his outing by striking out Jake Burger and getting Sam Haggerty to ground out. The strikeout of Burger was the 1,800th for Gray, who is one of just 10 active players to reach that mark.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Phil Maton pitched the eighth inning, walking one, but giving up no hits, before Ryan Helsley came on for the ninth, also giving up no hits and striking out two for his 13th save.&nbsp; At the plate, Winn led the way going 2-for-4 with a run scored.&nbsp;

Cardinals bounce back from poor performance with 2-0 shutout win 

A pitchers duel between the Kansas City Royals number four starter, Michael Wacha, and last years American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, the Detroit Tigers ace, ended with a 1-0 win for the Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.&nbsp;

The day started out with the Royals celebrating a World Series winner, as former third baseman Mike Moustakas retired as a Kansas City Royal during a ceremony before the game.&nbsp; Moustakas slashed .251/.306/.430 with 139 home runs over parts of eight seasons as a Royal. His 38 home runs in 2017 set a single-season club record at the time until Jorge Soler hit 48 in 2019.&nbsp; Moustakas was traded to the Brewers in 2018, and would go on to play for the Reds, Rockies and Angels. The three-time All-Star finished his 13-year career with 215 home runs.

The game flew by, lasting just two hours, as both pitchers were on top of their game once things got underway.&nbsp; Wacha, carried a no hitter into the seventh inning, only allowing one baserunner walking Gleyber Torres in the fourth inning, while Skubal gave up just two hits, a single to Freddy Fermin in the third and a single to Nick Loftin in the fifth, striking out seven batters.&nbsp; In the seventh, Wacha gave a up a single to Colt Keith, but retired the next two batters to get out of the inning.&nbsp;

The Royals struck in the eighth inning, getting the only hit on the day between both teams with a runner in scoring position.&nbsp; After Loftin doubled off reliever&nbsp;Beau Brieske, a single from Vinnie Pasquantino into left field, bringing home Loftin who beat the offline throw for the lone score of the game, setting Kansas City up to bring on&nbsp;Carlos Estévez for the save.&nbsp;

Estévez retired the first two batters he faced before giving up a single, again to Keith, but then forced Riley Greene to groundout to end the game, earning his 16th save.&nbsp; &nbsp;With his 16th save of the season, Estévez tied Royals Hall of Famer Jeff Montgomery's franchise record for saves by the end of May.

John Schreiber earned the win in relief, improving to 2-2 on the season, striking out two and walking one in the eighth inning.&nbsp; Wacha struck out six batters through his seven innings of work, walking one and giving up one hit.&nbsp;&nbsp;The last time Wacha threw seven innings of one-hit ball was May 15, 2023 with the Padres, when he took a no-hitter into the 8th inning, against the Royals, before Michael Massey led off the inning with a single to prompt a pitching change.

On a day where both teams combined for just six hits, it was Loftin who led at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.&nbsp; Loftin also made an impressive diving catch in the outfield, after Wacha had given up the single to Keith, to prevent another hit.&nbsp;

Wacha's no hit bid broken up in seventh as Royals win pitchers duel 1-0

The St. Joseph Mustangs, or as they were known on Friday night the St. Joseph Tenderloins, remained undefeated to open the season with a 6-5 win over the KC Monarchs on Noah Cameron night at Phil Welch Stadium.

Northwest Missouri State's Parker Griffith gave the Mustangs the lead in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart.&nbsp; Griffith was 1-for-3 with two RBI's in the win.&nbsp;

Mustangs stay undefeated to open season with 6-5 win over Monarchs

The Rangers offense exploded for 15 hits against the St. Louis Cardinals, finally providing run support for Texas’ electric rotation in an 11-1 victory at Globe Life Field on Friday night. 

They scored more runs in the second inning against Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore (4) than in the entire three-game series loss against the Blue Jays (3) earlier this week.&nbsp;&nbsp;The most notable Rangers hits likely belonged to Marcus Semien, who provided quite the spark from the bottom of the lineup.

Josh Jung opened the scoring in the first for the Rangers with a single, driving in&nbsp;Sam Haggerty, before the big four run second inning.&nbsp; Haggerty's triple in the second drove in two runs, scoring&nbsp;Kyle Higashioka and Semien, before he scored on a two run home run by Wyatt Langford, giving Texas a 5-0 lead in just two innings off Liberatore.&nbsp;

Liberatore did get through the next three innings scoreless, before being replaced in the sixth inning by&nbsp;Gordon Graceffo, where the Rangers added four more runs.&nbsp; Semien singled driving in Jake Burger for the first run of the frame, then with one out Haggerty drove in his third run of the game scoring&nbsp;Higashioka.&nbsp; With two outs, Jung singled, driving in his second and third runs of the game, bringing home Semien and Haggerty for a 9-0 Rangers lead.&nbsp;

Semien's two run home run in the bottom of the seventh were the final runs for Texas, scoring himself and&nbsp;Higashioka.&nbsp; St. Louis finally found their way onto the scoreboard in the eighth inning, Lars Nootbaar doubling home Victor Scott.

With the loss, Liberatore fell to 3-4 on the season, pitching five innings and giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits while striking out five and walking one.&nbsp; The Cardinals managed just five hits in the loss, with five different players getting one hit each.&nbsp;

St. Louis and Texas continue their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Sonny Gray (5-1, 4.06 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals against Patrick Corbin (3-3, 3.75 ERA) for the Rangers. First pitch is at 3:05pm, with pregame being joined at 2:55 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).

Rangers offense erupts in 11-1 blowout over Cardinals

Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo returned from the 15 day injured list, but his return was spoiled as Kansas City fell to the Detroit Tigers in a crucial AL Central clash, losing 7-5 on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium.&nbsp;

Detroit took the lead right away in the game, as Riley Green hit a two run homer in the first inning, driving in Colt Keith, for the quick two run lead.&nbsp; Kansas City cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning with a home run of their own, Bobby Witt Jr hitting a solo shot into left center field, but the Tigers extended the lead in the second inning on another two run homer, this time from&nbsp;Dillon Dingler scoring Wenceel Pérez.

The Royals continued to battle back, again cutting the lead to one run in the bottom of the third inning as Drew Waters singled home Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez with the bases loaded, but John Rave and Michael Massey both struck out swinging to end the inning, leaving Maikel Garcia stranded at third base.&nbsp;

Spencer Torkelson singled home another run in the top of the fifth inning for Detroit, scoring Kerry Carpenter, but again the Royals scored keeping within striking distance, a sacrifice fly by Mark Canha in the bottom of the seventh inning bringing home Garcia.&nbsp; Again though, Massey struck out to end the inning and the threat from Kansas City, giving the Tigers the opportunity to put the game away in the eighth, where they scored two more runs.&nbsp;

Torkelson hit his 14th home run of the season for the first run of the inning, which was followed by a double by Perez.&nbsp; Perez scored on a single by Dingler for the final run for Detroit.&nbsp; Waters did single home Garcia in the ninth inning with two outs, but Canha grounded out to end the game.&nbsp;

Lugo fell to 3-5 with the loss, pitching 3 1/3 innings and giving up four runs on five hits, striking out three and walking two in his return. Garcia led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one walk in the loss.&nbsp;&nbsp;
