Hardy wreaks havoc as Tigers top&nbsp; Louisiana on steamy Saturday

Ahmad Hardy rushed for 250 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 25 Missouri pounded Louisiana-Lafayette 52-10 on a hot Saturday at Faurot Field in Columbia.

Hardy opened the scoring as Mizzou scored on four consecutive possessions.&nbsp; Hardy capped a 10 play drive with a seven yard touchdown run.&nbsp; On the next offensive drive, Beau Pribula found Marquis Johnson through the air for an 11 yard touchdown pass, and then after a third straight Louisiana three and out, Pribula scored on the ground with a 14 yard touchdown run..

The Tigers continued pouring on the scoring, Pribula throwing out of a sack, and finding Jamal Roberts for a 39 yard touchdown pass putting up 28 unanswered points for Mizzou, before Louisiana finally got on the scoreboard after intercepting Pribula, a 34 yard field goal from Tony Sterner being the first points for the Ragin' Cajuns.&nbsp;

It took just two plays for Missouri to respond, Hardy breaking a 71 yard touchdown run.&nbsp; But Louisiana got a long touchdown run of their own in just one play after back to back punts, Zylan Perry going up the middle for an 84 yard rushing score, adding the final points of the game for the Ragin' Cajuns.&nbsp; Robert Meyer hit a 22 yard field goal with no time left in the clock, putting the Tigers up 38-10 at the halftime break.&nbsp;

Missouri pulled most of its starters in the third quarter after building a 45-10 lead on Hardy's third rushing touchdown, a seven yard score.&nbsp; Marquise Davis finished a 17 play drive in the fourth quarter with the final score for the Tigers, a two yard rushing touchdown.

The Tigers finished with 427 yards rushing on 62 carries. Davis had 113 yards and a touchdown on the ground.&nbsp; Hardy, who transferred to Missouri from Louisiana-Monroe in the offseason, posted a career high in rushing yards and broke the 200-yard barrier for the third time in his college career.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Quarterback Pribula was 15-for-22 passing for 174 yards and two TDs and one rushing touchdown.&nbsp; Kevin Coleman Jr had eight catches for 84 yards.

Next,&nbsp;Missouri (3-0) kicks off SEC play, hosting No. 11 South Carolina on Saturday.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at either 6pm or 6:30pm, with the game airing on either ABC or ESPN.&nbsp; The game will NOT air on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM) due to Royals baseball.

MoWest dominates home opener against Missouri S&amp;T for first win

The Missouri Western State University Griffons dominated the first half and played strong defense throughout in a 27-10 home opening win over Missouri S&amp;T&nbsp; at Spratt Stadium.

The Griffons opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, scoring the only points of the opening frame, as quarterback Kane Donovan capped a 10 play drive with a 22 yard touchdown pass, finding Isaac&nbsp;Khattab in the endzone.&nbsp;

 MoWest ended the first half with four consecutive scoring drives on way to a shutout in the first half, with Donovan throwing two more touchdown passes, the first coming early in the second quarter connecting with Bryce Page for a two yard score on a 4th and 2 play.&nbsp; On the Griffons next possession Donovan found his third different receiver for a score, a nine play drive ending with a 24 yard touchdown score to Damir Abdullah.

A 19 yard field goal from Spencer Sprenger extended the Griffons lead late in the half and MoWest went to the halftime break leading 24-0, limiting the Miners to just 66 total offensive yards through the first two quarters of action.

After no scoring in the third quarter, the Griffons added to to their total in the fourth, with their final points of the game coming on a 37-yard field goal from Sprenger. Missouri S&amp;T fought hard late, scoring all of their points in the last 4:15 of the matchup, first getting a five yard touchdown pass from Jake Farrell to Sheldon Butler-Lawson with 4:08 left on the clock, and in the dying seconds of the game knocking through a 36 yard field goal by Layne Ryals.

&nbsp;Donovan completed 20-of-33 passes for a career-high 233 yards and a career-high three touchdown passes. He also rushed for 24 yards.Bryce Marcus III had a team-best four grabs for 54 yards. Abdullah had a team-high 57 yards on three total catches.&nbsp;Marrell Fountain led the team in rushing for the second straight week, going 65 yards on five carries.

MoWest (1-1) stays at home on Saturday to open MIAA play against Central Missouri (0-2). Kickoff in that game is set for 6 p.m.&nbsp;

Bearcat offense explodes in home opener victory over&nbsp;Javelinas

The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats rolled up 646 yards of total offense, scoring a 49-20 non-conference win over Texas A&amp;M-Kingsville at Bearcat Stadium in their home opener.

Northwest held a 28-7 lead midway through the third quarter, before TAMUK rallied with 13 straight points to cut the Bearcat lead to 28-20. However, Northwest tacked on 21 fourth-quarter points to race away for the 29-point victory.

Luke Mathews caught a pair of first-half touchdown receptions from Chris Ruhnke, passes of four yards and five yards respectively, and Zechariah Owens rushed for another with a three yard touchdown as Northwest built a 21-7 halftime lead.&nbsp; The lone score from the Javelinas did have the game tied at the end of the first quarter at seven a piece as Andre Branch rushed in from one yard out.

Owens found the endzone again in the third quarter as he raced in for a 16-yard rushing score for his team-leading third on the ground touchdown this year.&nbsp; The Javelinas&nbsp;battled back though with a touchdown, a one yard rushing score by Raymond Hudson, and a pair of field goals, 35 yards and 42 yards by Daniel Gauana, to slice the lead to eight with 13:19 to play in the game.

The Bearcats answered almost immediately with a four-play, 75-yard drive that included a 28-yard pass play to Erwin Nash and 33 rushing yards for Quincy Torry. The Bearcats used some razzle-dazzle with a reverse flea-flicker that resulted in a 16-yard touchdown strike from Ruhnke to tight end Andrew Waltlke.&nbsp; After the Bearcat defense forced a three-and-out and the Northwest offense kept churning.

Northwest marched 66 yards in four plays, and Ruhnke capped the drive with his fourth touchdown pass of the day – a 12-yard toss to Nash for a 42-20 lead.&nbsp; The Bearcats later went 50 yards in four plays to score their final touchdown with a 40-yard touchdown run by Myers.

Ruhnke went 16-of-20 passing for 229 yards and four touchdowns. Owens went 6-of-9 passing for 112 yards. Nash latched on to a team-high five catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp; Myers and Torry each topped the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in their Bearcat careers. Myers toted the ball 10 times for 152 yards and a score. Torry rushed 15 times for 117 yards.&nbsp;

Northwest (2-1) will be on the road Saturday taking on the Missouri Southern Lions in Joplin, Mo. The Bearcats and Lions will kick at 4 p.m.

Ravens crush Graceland bouncing back big after Grandview loss

Benedictine picked up a big home win Saturday afternoon.&nbsp; The #4 Ravens defeated the Graceland Yellowjackets, 52-29 at Larry Wilcox Stadium, bouncing back from a conference opening loss to Grandview last week.

Jackson Dooley threw touchdowns on back to back drives opening up the scoring for the Ravens.&nbsp; Dooley connected with&nbsp; Brayden Fucuals for a 14 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Then, after&nbsp;Isaiah Hasten ended a Graceland drive by picking off quarterback&nbsp;CJ Brooks, Dooley found&nbsp;Joseph Lagafuaina for a 16 yard touchdown pass to build a 14-0 lead.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Graceland cut into the lead on a two yard pass from Brooks to Gerald Monroe, but the Ravens extended their lead on the next offensive drive to end the first quarter up 21-7,&nbsp;Xiomar Hernandez scoring on a two yard rushing touchdown.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Benedictine had things under control early in the first half, leading the Yellowjackets 28-7 after a Xavier Ugorji six yard rushing touchdown with 13 minutes to play in the second quarter. However, Graceland was able to score two touchdowns on consecutive drives late, a 17 yard rushing score by Tael Jean and a three yard pass from Brooks to Monroe, with a two point conversion run by Jason Wagoner, to cut the Ravens lead to 28-22 with 1:19 left to play in the second quarter.&nbsp;&nbsp;

That's when the Ravens offense went into quick mode as Dooley led a 69-yard scoring drive in just over a minute, capping it off with a touchdown pass to Tanner Zimmerman to give the Ravens a 35-22 lead at the halftime break.

Benedictine dominated the third quarter to put the game away, scoring three times. Ugorji scored early in the third on a 30-yard run, then JJ Jackson rushed in from 16 yards out. Christian Klobe scored the final Ravens points of the afternoon with a booming 52-yard field goal to put the Ravens up 52-22.

The Ravens defense nearly held the Yellowjackets off the board for the entire second half, but Graceland scored with two seconds left on the clock, Brooks connecting with Monroe for a third time on a 35 yard passing touchdown.

Dooley finished the game with 269 passing yards and three touchdowns going 18-for-32 through the air with an interception. Lagafuaina caught four passes for 80 yards, Zimmerman also had four catches for 38 yards, and Titan Osburn caught three passes for 65 yards. Ugorji led the rushing attack with 57 yards on 10 attempts.

Benedictine (2-1) will hit the road for their next contest, a 1 p.m. Saturday at Clarke University.

K State offense struggles in non conference clash with Arizona

 Ismail Mahdi ran for 189 yards, Noah Fifita had two touchdown runs and Arizona overcame a shaky start to the second half for a 23-17 win over Kansas State on Friday night in Tucson, Arizona.

Arizona faced its first big test of the year after beating two smaller-conference teams by a combined score of 88-9. The Wildcats led by 14 at halftime, but let Kansas State back in it with a series of mistakes. They sealed the win with a turnover on downs, opening 3-0 for the first time since 2015.

Arizona led 17-3 at halftime on touchdown runs of 15 and two yards by Fifita.&nbsp; The Wildcats also got a 31 yard field goa from MIchael Salgado-Medina in the half, while Kansas State's lone score started the scoring, a 51 yard field goal by Luis Rodriguez Jr.&nbsp; The Wildcats from Manhattan needed one play to get back in it after the halftime break.

Taking a direct snap, wide receiver Jayce Brown weaved through a blockade of tacklers on the right side and raced past the rest of the defense for a 75-yard touchdown run — the first touchdown Arizona's defense has allowed this season.&nbsp; Then, after a three-and-out, Salgado-Medina fumbled a snap and had his kick blocked, setting up Kansas State at Arizona's 13. Avery Johnson scored four plays later on a one yard run to tie the game up.

Salgado-Medina kicked field goals of 31 and 41 yards to put Arizona up 23-17 before hitting the upright on a 46-yard attempt with 1:55 left.&nbsp; Kansas State would turn the ball over on downs, Johnson's pass attempt to Brown falling incomplete on 4th and 7, allowing Arizona to kneel out the final minute of the game.

Coming off a home loss to Army, Kansas State struggled offensively for much of the nonconference matchup between future Big 12 foes — a game scheduled before Arizona joined the league. Kansas State had 193 total yards and Johnson was limited to 88 yards and no touchdowns on 13 of 29 passing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dylan Edwards returned for the first time since spraining his ankle early in the season opener against No. 14 Iowa State.&nbsp; Edwards had four carries for 13 yards.&nbsp; Brown had six catches for 68 yards to be the leading receiver.

Up next,&nbsp;Kansas State (1-3) opens Big 12 play against UCF on&nbsp; September 27th.&nbsp; The Wildcats get a much deserved bye week this week.

Nebraska rests starters in second half during rout of Houston Christian

 Dylan Raiola threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns, Emmett Johnson ran for two scores and Nebraska hammered Houston Christian 59-7 Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

The Cornhuskers, wearing all-red uniforms for the first time since 1986, scored on their first eight full possessions against the Huskies of the Football Championship Subdivision.&nbsp; Raiola, Johnson and most of the other starters didn't play in the second half as Nebraska improved to 16-0 against FCS opponents.

The Huskers led 38-0 after rolling up 320 yards and holding Houston Christian to 52 total yards in the first half. They finished with 554 yards of offense.

The Huskers also got their first fumble return for a touchdown since 2020 early in the second quarter when former Missouri Tiger and Lees Summit North defensive end William Nwaneri picked up Jake Weir's fumble on a sack and ran 29 yards for a score.

Houston Christian ended Nebraska's bid for a second straight shutout though in the middle of the third quarter. Xai'Shaun Edwards took a handoff, shook off Jaylen George's tackle attempt and went around the left side for a 45-yard touchdown.

TJ Lateef relieved Raiola to start the second half and was 5 of 5 for 126 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown to Cortez Mills Jr.&nbsp; Dane Key caught four passes for 104 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown, and Kwinten Ives ran for 72 of his 85 yards in the second half. Johnson added 78 yards on the ground.

Up next,&nbsp;Nebraska (3-0) opens Big Ten play at home against No. 23 Michigan on Saturday.&nbsp; The game kicks off at 2:30pm and will air on CBS and Paramount+.

It was a great night for Salvador Perez. It was not a good night for the Royals, who scored more than three runs for just the fourth time in the last 15 games but failed to hold the lead against a relentless Phillies lineup, falling 8-6 at Citizens Bank Park.

Perez become the eighth primary catcher in MLB history to reach 300 home runs and the 10th active player to drive in 1,000 runs.

Kansas City took the lead in the first inning, partially behind the first of Perez's two home runs on the night.&nbsp; Maikel Garcia drove in the opening run with an RBI single scoring Vinnie Pasquantino, before coming home in the very next at bat as Perez hit career home run 299 to put the Royals up 3-0.

The Phillies cut the lead to one in the bottom half of the first inning as Brandon Marsh doubled home Kyle Schwarber and Harrison Bader.&nbsp; In the third inning, the Royals pushed the lead back to two runs as Perez hit the milestone home run.&nbsp;&nbsp;Perez’s swing off Phillies starter Taijuan Walker in the third inning put him on a list with seven other catchers to have hit 300 home runs: Hall of Famers Mike Piazza, Johnny Bench, Carlton Fisk, Yogi Berra, Gary Carter and Iván Rodríguez, as well as eight-time All-Star Lance Parrish, who is not in the Hall.

J.T Realmuto's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third drove in Bader to cut the Kansas City lead to one again.&nbsp; In the fifth inning, Schwarber tied up the game, hitting his 51st home run of the season, before the Phillies took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Nick Castellanos scoring Bryce Harper and then extended the lead with an Otto Kemp double bringing home Realmuto for a 6-4 Philadelphia lead.&nbsp;

The Phillies added one more run in the sixth inning with an RBI single from Schwarber driving in Donovan Walton, before Kansas City found their way onto the scoreboard again in the seventh inning.&nbsp; Pasquantino's sacrifice fly scored Tyler Tolbert, but in the bottom of the inning Philadelphia struck again, Marsh hitting his 10th home run of the season for the final Phillies run.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the eighth inning, Carter Jensen drove in the final run for Kansas City with an RBI single, driving in Jonathan India.&nbsp; Jac Caglianone struck out to end the eighth, pinch hitting for Tolbert, and then in the ninth against former Minnesota Twin&nbsp;Jhoan Duran, the Royals were retired 1-2-3 to end the game.&nbsp;

Angel Zerpa, took the loss falling to 5-2, in relief of starter Ryan Bergert, gave up three runs on three hits in the fifth inning when Philadelphia went in front for good, striking out one and walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Perez was 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.&nbsp; India was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

High School Football area schedule for Sept. 12th

Guardians rookie C.J. Kayfus hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Cleveland Guardians rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night at Progressive Field, taking three of four in the series against its AL Central rival as it tries to stay in contention for the final AL wild card spot.

Vinnie Pasquantino became the fourth left-handed batter in Royals history to record 30 home runs in a season with a two-run drive in the first inning. The last Royals lefty batter to reach the mark was Mike Moustakas with 38 in 2017. The others were John Mayberry (34 in 1975) and Hall of Famer George Brett (30 in 1985).

In 30 games since Aug. 10, Pasquatino leads the majors with 33 RBI and is tied with the Mets’ Juan Soto at 11 home runs.

Cleveland cut the lead in half in the fourth inning on a Jose Ramirez groundout, scoring Steven Kwan.&nbsp; Guardians' catcher Bo Naylor led off the eighth with a base hit to right field. Kayfus followed with a towering 425-foot drive to right-center on a low fastball on a 1-0 count from John Schreiber for his third homer of the season.

The Royals were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position. They had runners at the corners with two outs in the sixth, but Guardians starter Gavin Williams struck out Jonathan India with a sweeper on a full count to end the frame.

Schreiber took the loss in relief, falling to 3-3 on the season, giving up two runs on two hits with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.&nbsp; The loss spoiled another good start from Stephen Kolek who gave up one run on three hits while striking out four and walking one in 6 2/3 frames.&nbsp; At the plate, Pasquantino was 1-for-3 with the home run, a walk, and two RBIs.&nbsp; Four other Royals had one hit each in the loss.

Late home run spoils solid start for Kolek as Guardians top Royals 3-2

 Nick Loftin singled in the tying run and scored on Maikel Garcia’s double in the seventh inning, sending the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night at Progressive Field and snapping a three game losing streak.

Loftin singles in tying run and scores as Royals rally for 4-3 win

Former Cardinal Randy Arozarena hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the third inning as part of a four-RBI night as the Seattle Mariners beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3&nbsp; to close within one game of the AL West lead.

The Cardinals took the lead first in the game scoring two runs in the second inning.&nbsp; Nolan Gorman doubled, driving in Willson Contreras for the opening run, and Gorman later scored on an RBI single from Thomas Saggese

Arozarena hit his 27th homer, four more than his previous career high, in the third inning scoring Victor Robles and J.P Crawford to put the Mariners up 3-2.&nbsp; St. Louis tied up the game in the fourth inning as Jose Fermin reached on an infield single, driving in Saggese, but then in the fifth inning, Arozarena gave Seattle the lead back with a sacrifice fly, scoring Mitch Garver, in an inning that included Josh Naylor's 19th home run of the season.

Matthew Liberatore fell to 7-12 on the season with the loss giving up five runs on six hits with one strikeout and three walks in four innings.&nbsp; At the plate, Fermin was 2-for-4 with an RBI.&nbsp; Contreras was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while every other Cardinal had one hit each.&nbsp; The only Redbirds who did not reach base were Victor Scott and Ivan Herrera.

Cleveland starter Joey Cantillo allowed four hits in a career-best eight-plus innings, José Ramírez homered, doubled and scored twice, and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Kansas City Royals 2-0 for their fifth straight victory, pushing the Royals farther back in the race for an AL Wildcard spot.

Ramírez, who had three hits, hit a solo homer off Royals starter Noah Cameron with two outs in the first. David Fry hit the second of back-to-back to doubles to drive in Ramírez in the fourth inning for the only runs the Guardians needed in the victory .

Royals offense falters again in 2-0 shutout loss falling farther back in playoff race

Josh Naylor hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning to help the Seattle Mariners beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 on Monday night at T-Mobile Park.

The Mariners scored four runs in the sixth inning to erase St. Louis’ advantage. The Cardinals jumped out in front 2-0 on a two-run home run by Alec Burleson in the fourth inning, his 17th of the season.

Naylor, who homered in his last two games, turned on a hanging curveball from Cardinals reliever Gordon Graceffo for a two-run shot after Julio Rodríguez got Seattle on the board with an RBI single. After his double, Naylor made a heads-up play and stole third base, allowing him to score with ease on a sacrifice fly from Jorge Polanco.

Graceffo took his first loss of the season in relief, falling to 3-1 on the season, giving up two runs on two hits with one walk in one inning of action.&nbsp; At the plate, the Cardinals had just three hits with Burleson going 1-for-4 with the home run and two RBIs.&nbsp; Ivan Herrera was 1-for-3 with a walk while Lars Nootbaar was 1-for-4 for the two other hits.

Cardinals fall to Mariners 4-2 after Naylor's go ahead double

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Slade&nbsp;Cecconi flirted with franchise history on Monday, when he carried a no-hit bid into the eighth inning of the Guardians’ 10-2 win over the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field.

Cecconi was six outs away from becoming the first Cleveland pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Len Barker, who tossed a perfect game on May 15, 1981.&nbsp;&nbsp;Michael Massey recorded Kansas City’s first hit in the eighth, when he hit a leadoff single. Cecconi bounced back getting Carter Jensen to ground into a 5-6-3 double play and Kyle Isbel to ground out to end the frame.

The Guardians’ offense backed Cecconi with a season-high 16 hits, including seven doubles.&nbsp; Cleveland opened the scoring with a single run in both the first and third innings,&nbsp;Kyle Manzardo hitting an RBI double in the first to score&nbsp;Daniel Schneemann and Jose Ramirez singling in Steven Kwan in the third inning.&nbsp; The Guardians then tagged Royals starter Ryan Bergert for four RBI doubles and six runs in the fourth inning while opening an 8-0 lead. C.J. Kayfus, Brayan Rocchio, Schneemann and Nolan Jones hit the doubles.

The final two runs for Cleveland scored on fielder's choices, the first coming in the fifth inning as&nbsp;Schneemann grounded into a fielders choice and Rocchio scored on a throwing error, Schneemann reaching second on the error with Kwan out at second.&nbsp; In the seventh inning, Kwan reached on a a fielders choice, with Rocchio out at second, and Kayfus coming home to score.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Royals finally got their runs on the scoreboard in the ninth inning to break up the shutout, Jac Caglianone hitting a two RBI single and driving in Tyler Tolbert and Mike Yastrzemski.&nbsp; Kansas City had just three hits in the game overall, with four reaching base on walks.&nbsp;Royals All-Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was not in the starting lineup for the third straight game due to back spasms. Manager Matt Quatraro said Witt ran and did some fielding before the game without any issues and was possible to see “game action.”

Bergert fell to 2-2 on the season with the loss, giving up eight runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.&nbsp; At the plate, Caglianone was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.&nbsp; Massey and Yastrzemski were both 1-for-4.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Cleveland won its fourth straight game and moved past the Royals&nbsp; into second place in the AL Central. Cleveland entered the four-game series 2 1/2 games behind Seattle for the third and final wild card spot.

It's the week two college football roundup on St. Joseph Post, with some exciting ones this week.&nbsp; Let's jump right into it

Mizzou comes back to snatch victory in renewed Border War rivalry

The Missouri Tigers scored the first touchdown of the game, before giving up 21 unanswered points to the Kansas Jayhawks, from there though, Mizzou outscored Kansas 36-10, on way to a 42-31 win in the first Border War showdown since 2011.

After the Tigers forced the Jayhawks into a three and out on the first drive of the game, Missouri drove down the field in five plays to put up the first points of the game, Ahmad Hardy breaking a 32 yard rush for a touchdown, the extra point by redshirt freshman kicker&nbsp;Robert Meyer though was blocked.&nbsp; Meyer kicked in place of Blake Craig who will miss the season after tearing his ACL against Central Arkansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kansas answered on their next drive taking the lead finishing a seven play drive with a precise 15 yard touchdown pass to&nbsp;DeShawn Hanika, taking the lead after converting the extra point.&nbsp; The lead would be extended quickly on the defensive side by the Jayhawks on a fumble six, Kansas defensive back Austin Alexander recovering a fumble by Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula and taking it 28 yards for a score.

Trailing 14-6, the Mizzou offense went three and out on their next drive, managing just one yard, punting the ball back to Kansas and the Jayhawks responded with another touchdown, a six play drive, ending with Jalon Daniels rushing in from one yard out to give Kansas a 21-6 lead at the end of one quarter of the rivalry matchup.&nbsp;

The second quarter looked like a totally different game for Missouri, the Tigers using a long 15 play drive to cut into the Kansas lead with a touchdown, Pribula throwing a three yard touchdown pass to Kevin Coleman Jr.&nbsp; On the first Kansas offensive play of the next drive, it was the Mizzou defense this time getting points on the board, Zion Young coming off the edge unblocked and sacking Daniels and forcing a fumble that rolled back into the endzone and was recovered by the Jayhawks Kobe Baynes for a safety, cutting the lead to 21-15.

A 17 play drive ended with Meyer's hitting his first collegiate field goal from 25 yards out to cut the lead to three, and then with no time left on the clock, both teams headed to the halftime break tied at 21 after Meyer hit a 20 yard field goal at the end of the half as the Tigers scored 15 unanswered points.&nbsp; In the second quarter, Missouri outgained Kansas in yards 186 to -21.

Missouri started the second half with the ball, and after a 10 play drive ended with a turnover on downs, Kansas responded with an 11 play drive for a field goal to take the lead back&nbsp;Laith Marjan hitting a 26 yard field goal.&nbsp; In another long drive though, which the third quarter was filled with, the Tigers put together 12 plays, driving 75 yards, where Pribula completed an 11 yard touchdown pass to tight end Brett Norfleet, giving Missouri a 28-24 lead at the end of three quarters.

The Jayhawks and Tigers exchanged three and outs and punts to start the fourth quarter, and after Kansas got the ball back the Jayhawks again took the lead as Daniels again connected with Hanika, this time for a six yard score.&nbsp; From there it was all Missouri, Pribula finishing off a 10 play drive with his second touchdown pass to Norfleet, a pass on 4th and 1 that Norfleet took 27 yards to the endzone for a 35-31 lead.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Another Jayhawks punt gave Missouri the ball back, and the Tigers needed just three plays, and three runs by Jamal Roberts to put the stamp on the game, Roberts breaking free for a 63 yard touchdown run.&nbsp; On the ensuing Kansas drive, Daylan Carnell picked off Daniels, dragging his left toe along the turf as he dove out of bounds for the game ending interception.&nbsp;

For Missouri, Pribula was 30-for-39 with 334 yards passing and three touchdowns.&nbsp; Roberts rushed 13 times for 143 yards with a touchdown, while Hardy rushed 25 times for 112 yards with a score.&nbsp; Coleman caught 10 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, Norfleet had seven catches for 76 yards and two scores.&nbsp;

Northwest gets road win over Washburn for first win of McMenamin era

 The Northwest Missouri State University football team used a complete team effort to stifle the Washburn Ichabods on the road for a 34-7 victory at Yager Stadium.&nbsp; It marked the first win as a Bearcat for new head coach John McMenamin.

Northwest started the scoring on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Chris Ruhnke to Jackson Miller. Kicker Mo Alwaely though the extra point wide right. The Bearcats extended the lead when Ruhnke hit Dominic Myers for an 18-yard touchdown strike late in the opening quarter.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

The Bearcat defense limited Washburn to 14 yards of offense in the first half and only one first down. Washburn rushed for -19 yards in the opening 30 minutes. Northwest tallied 211 total yards and 13 first downs in the first half, leading Washburn at halftime 13-0.

On the first Kansas offensive play of the next drive, it was the Mizzou defense this time getting points on the board, Zion Young coming off the edge unblocked and sacking Daniels and forcing a fumble that rolled back into the endzone and was recovered by the Jayhawks Kobe Baynes for a safety, cutting the lead to 21-15.A 17 play drive ended with Meyer's hitting his first collegiate field goal from 25 yards out to cut the lead to three, and then with no time left on the clock, both teams headed to the halftime break tied at 21 after Meyer hit a 20 yard field goal at the end of the half as the Tigers scored 15 unanswered points.&nbsp; In the second quarter, Missouri outgained Kansas in yards 186 to -21.Missouri started the second half with the ball, and after a 10 play drive ended with a turnover on downs, Kansas responded with an 11 play drive for a field goal to take the lead back&nbsp;Laith Marjan hitting a 26 yard field goal.&nbsp; In another long drive though, which the third quarter was filled with, the Tigers put together 12 plays, driving 75 yards, where Pribula completed an 11 yard touchdown pass to tight end Brett Norfleet, giving Missouri a 28-24 lead at the end of three quarters.The Jayhawks and Tigers exchanged three and outs and punts to start the fourth quarter, and after Kansas got the ball back the Jayhawks again took the lead as Daniels again connected with Hanika, this time for a six yard score.&nbsp; Zechariah Owens hit Gannon Gragert for a 17-yard touchdown pass with Northwest facing and fourth-and-4 on the opening play of the fourth quarter for Gragert's first touchdown reception as a Bearcat, giving Northwest a 27-0 lead.&nbsp;The Ichabods ended the shutout attempt when Washburn quarterback Justin Lewis hit D.J. The Ravens limited Grand View to a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter while scoring on a pair of passing touchdowns of their own. Jackson Dooley connected on two touchdown passes to Tanner Zimmerman in the fourth quarter of 60 yards and six yards, the second of which came with just over one minute left in the game and pulled the Ravens within three points.&nbsp;Dooley went 24 of 39 for 324 yards but finished with two interceptions to go along with his two touchdowns.  </figure>Army quarterback Cale Hellums accounted for three touchdowns that included a 14-yard touchdown run with 2:52 left to help Army beat Kansas State 24-21.The Wildcats built a lead through the first half with 13 unanswered points.&nbsp; A 34 yard field goal from Luis Rodriguez was the lone score of the first quarter, before Avery Johnson connected with Jaron Tibbs for a 32 yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to extend the lead.&nbsp; &nbsp;Late in the first half, Rodriguez knocked through a 38 yard field goal to move the Kansas State lead to 13-0Hellums tossed a two yard touchdown pass to Brady Anderson to end the first half for his first score of the game to cut into the lead, sending the teams to the locker room at the halftime break with a 13-7 score.&nbsp; But coming after halftime, Hellums gave Army the lead late in the third quarter, rushing for a one yard score.The Wildcats special teams unit got the Kansas State the lead back near the end of the third quarter, a 99 yard kickoff return by Bryce Noernberg going for the touchdown, with a two point conversion pass from Johnson to Tibbs being complete making it a one possession game.&nbsp;Army cut the lead to 21-17 with 10:46 left on a 35 yard field goal by Dawson Jones, and then attempted a squib kick on the ensuing kickoff, hoping to avoid another long return. It caromed off a K-State player and Army recovered on its own 44.&nbsp; On the ensuing drive, Hellums put together a 14 play drive that ended with what would be the game winning score, a 14 yard rushing touchdown by himself.Kansas State’s final drive ended when Avery Johnson threw an interception just past midfield. It was just the 10th home nonconference loss for Kansas State since 1990.&nbsp;&nbsp;The key for the Black Knights was going six of seven on fourth down.Johnson finished 15-of-25 passing for 172 yards and threw one touchdown pass. Tibbs finished with five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp; On the ground, Joe Jackson had seven carries for 30 yards.Up next,&nbsp;Kansas State (1-2)play at Arizona on Friday. They recorded their most points in a game since 2007 and most yards in a game since 2014 with 728 total yards of offense.&nbsp; Nebraska also posted its first shutout since a 33-0 Holiday Bowl win over Arizona in 2009. The Zips, who opened the season with a 10-0 loss to Wyoming at home, were held scoreless for a second straight game.Johnson broke a 47-yard touchdown run on the game's opening possession, caught a four yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and ran six yards for a score in the third for his three scores. Johnson was the first Nebraska player with back-to-back 100-yard rushing games since Anthony Grant had three straight to open the 2022 season.Raiola gave way to freshman backup TJ Lateef after he threaded a perfect strike to Dane Key in the end zone for a 47-0 lead in the third quarter.&nbsp;Raiola set the Nebraska record for consecutive completions. After connecting on his final 11 passes against Cincinnati last week, he hit on his first nine against Akron. The 20 completions broke the record of 15 by Dave Humm against Kansas in 1974. Akron did have two good chances to score its first points of the season.
