Jarred Kelenic had two hits and two RBIs, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 at Rate Field for their fourth straight win, handing Kansas City their third straight loss.
The White Sox had a 3-0 lead before the Royals rallied in the fourth inning. Chicago scored the first two runs in the second inning, Tristan Peters doubling to drive in Kelenic before Peters scored when Drew Romo reached on a fielding error. In the fourth inning, White Sox starting pitcher Noah Schultz walked the bases loaded, and Nick Loftin hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home Maikel Garcia for the first run.
Vinnie Pasquantino followed the sacrifice fly with a shallow flyball that went off the glove of a diving Sam Antonacci in left-center for a two-run single, scoring Bobby Witt Jr. and Lane Thomas to tie the game 3-3.
The White Sox responded with two runs in the fifth inning. With two out and runners on first and second, Kelenic hit a drive to right for a two-run double driving in Colson Montgomery and Andrew Benintendi. In the seventh inning, Montgomery added an insurance run for Chicago with a solo home run. The Royals trailed 6-3 before Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run homer off Seranthony Domínguez with two out in the ninth, bringing home Carter Jensen. But Domínguez struck out pinch-hitter Jac Caglianone for his 10th save in 12 chances.
Kansas City finished with five hits in its fifth loss in seven games. Seth Lugo took the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season, giving five runs and eight hits in five innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Of the five hits, Jensen was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Kansas City and Chicago wrap up their series tomorrow. Kris Bubic (3-1, 3.50 ERA, 47K's) starts for the Royals against Anthony Kay (2-1, 4.89 ERA, 25K's) for the White Sox. First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame at 6 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).
